This is an amazing photo taken in 1912 at ‘Padua’ Strathathallan which is on O’Dea Road.

The farmer was unwell so his community came to help plant the crop for him.

There were about 20 people, including women & children and 50 horses.

William Quinn was the gentleman on the right next to the big horse, hand on hip.

How amazing was this effort & community spirit!
It would be great to identify other people in this photo.

Strathallan was once a thriving community.
Sheldon’s built and ran the store until 1914.
The Wilson’s and Squires owned and operated it.
The Wilson’s were there until 1948.
They delivered groceries in the area with horse and cart.
They also ran the Post Office and the telephone exchange.

Can you believe that our lovely community used to have a General Store - across the road from The Strathallan Hall.
In its later life it was used as a shearing shed.
Wouldn’t it be great if it was still there!

If you have further information or photos please share.
