Friends of Edwards Point Ecological Restoration Morning

Sunday 31 May 2026 , Edwards Point Wildlife Reserve

From 9.30 am to 11.30 am

Location: Dune St. Entrance
New Picnic Table 25 May 2026 11.jpeg

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to our last environmental restoration weeding morning.

We will continue to focus on our long term plan to remove as many invasive exotic species as possible from the Western Block before the end of spring when most of them start to seed.

We’ve already seen some great results from our work over the last 3 years

This Sunday we are meeting at the Dune St. entrance at 9.30am and we really hope you will be able to join us.

Our only expectation is that you work at your own pace and enjoy yourself, and there is no pressure to stay for the whole session.

However we hope you can stay and join us for refreshments and help us celebrate our new picnic table which has just been installed near the Dune St. entrance. The picnic table has been financed by donations and FOEP and our grateful thanks goes out to Karin Shepherd whose persistent efforts has made this happen.

If the weather is considered unsuitable for working in the Reserve, we will cancel the event.

Some Changes

Whist we are still subject to Parks policies e.g OH&S, Parks have amended some policies including the removal of the requirement for volunteers to hold a current Working With Children Certificate.

Also, volunteers no longer need to register with Parks on parkconnet.

However we will still need you to register by signing on the attendance sheet.

Children Under 18

Children under 18 are welcome to join us however, they will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

What to Bring

Gloves - We can provide you with gloves if you don't have any or forget to bring them.

Hat

Appropriate comfortable shoes. Waterproof shoes if it’s been raining recently.

Sensible and appropriate clothes, preferably long sleeves, and pants (more protection from the sun and / or the cold and the mosquitoes!).

We’re always mindful of those UV rays, so bring sunscreen - we will also provide sunscreen as well as insect repellent.

Any personal medicine you may think you might need - we will have a first aid kit with us.

Your own water.

We will provide safety glasses and appropriate gardening equipment.

You are welcome to contact me if you need any assistance or have any questions.

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to our first Western Block environmental restoration weeding morning.

Our plan is to concentrate our efforts on the Western Block over winter and spring and continue the great work which we have been doing over the last 2 – 3 years focusing on removing Flax Leaf Broom and other invasive species which grow, flower and seed over at this time of the year.

This Tuesday we are meeting at the Dune St. entrance at 9.30am and we really hope you will be able to join us.

Whilst the late summer appears to be over BOM is predicting a mild day with little or no rain.

The the only expectation is that you work at your own pace and enjoy yourself, and there is no pressure to stay for the whole session. However, you're very welcome to stay for some light refreshments afterwards.

If the weather is considered unsuitable for working in the Reserve, we will cancel the event.

Just a reminder, FOEP operates under the policies and direction of Parks Victoria whilst conducting activities in the reserve, including Parks Child Safety policy.

Registering on Park Connect

Parks would also like all volunteers to register on Parks Connect. This is a great way to register your intention to attend as well as keeping in touch with our activities.

Have Your Say on the future of nature in Geelong! 🌿

The City of Greater Geelong has prepared a Draft ‘Plan for Nature’ to set the future direction for biodiversity programs in Greater Geelong and they are seeking as many survey responses as possible from our community! The Plan is scheduled to go back to Council for adoption on the 23 June 2026.

🌿 Have Your Say Survey 🌿

Your feedback is critical in making this a valuable Plan for Nature. It is estimated the survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Need help providing feedback? Here are our suggested topics that you could make comments about:

🌿The need to adequately fund the Plan and it’s outcomes
🌿The importance of working with Wadawurrung
🌿How we can get more people engaged in nature
🌿The need to assist existing nature volunteer groups across our region
🌿How we could scale up existing successful programs
🌿Asking corporations and businesses to play a role
🌿How we can apply planning regulations properly
🌿How to incentivise landholders to revegetate their land
🌿How to better protect land using covenants or by acquisition
🌿The need to monitor landscapes and species to assess impact.

Feedback closes at 5.00pm 30 April, 2026. Click on the button below and scroll to the bottom of the webpage!
