AFGHANISTAN25 | 11 October 2026
On 11 October 2026, we pause to honour more than 35,000 Australians who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East Area of Operations in relation to Afghanistan.
This year marks 25 years since the first Australian Defence Force personnel deployed to Afghanistan - the beginning of two decades of service, courage, and sacrifice.
We remember the 47 Australian Defence Force personnel who died as a result of their service. We recognise the veterans who came home, the families who stood beside them, and the community that continues to support them.
From the team at RSL Greater Springfield Sub Branch, we say thank you. Your service will never be forgotten.
We will be attending the National Commemorative Service at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. Lest We Forget.

Commemorative coin marks 25 years since Australian service in Afghanistan began.

To mark 25 years since Australian service in Afghanistan (2001-2021) began, DVA is releasing a commemorative coin that recognises everyone who served and acknowledges the lasting impact of that service on veterans and families.

The coin recognises all Australians who served in the Afghanistan War (2001–2014) and conflicts in Afghanistan (2015 to present). It honours Australians who lost their lives during or as a result of their service and acknowledge the physical and mental impacts that service has had on many of our veterans and their families.

The commemorative coin will be available to all attendees at the national commemorative service on Sunday 11 October 2026.

Recognising that many veterans and families may be unable to attend the service in person, the commemorative coin can be collected in person from 5 November by visiting the below locations:

You vs You – Lions Den 24HR Ultra might run for 24 hours, but you choose how long you take part.

You don’t have to match anyone else’s pace or distance. Your challenge is exactly that — yours.

Walk. Run. Bring a mate. Take some breaks. Come back later. Or simply come down and support the people taking part.

Join Total Fusion Lions, Greater Springfield RSL and the wider Springfield community at Brighton Homes Arena on 23–24 October as we come together for movement, connection and mental-health awareness.

Our sub-branch is moving fast, and we have big plans ahead.

We’re breaking the mold of the traditional RSL. Greater Springfield is here to support contemporary veterans and their families through genuine mateship, practical service, and active community events.

Even an hour a week or a fortnight from you can make a massive difference.

GREATER SPRINGFIELD RSL IS SHOWING UP 💪

Greater Springfield RSL Sub-Branch is proud to support Total Fusion Lions’ You vs You – Lions Den 24HR Ultra.

The important part:

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO 24 HOURS!

From 9:00am Friday 23 October to 9:00am Saturday 24 October, Brighton Homes Arena will bring our community together for 24 hours of movement, connection and mental-health awareness.

Walk for a while. Run a few laps. Set yourself a bigger challenge. Bring a mate. Or simply come down and be part of the community supporting those taking part.

There’s no need to match somebody else’s distance or pace.

Your challenge is yours.

Greater Springfield RSL will be there supporting the event and participants throughout the 24 hours, and we’d love to see our veterans, families, friends and wider Springfield community getting involved.

RUN. WALK. SHOW UP.
