At the YMCA Springfield Central Community Centre, we acknowledge and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as First Nations Peoples and the world’s oldest living cultures and communities πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we all gather and work, the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul peoples of the Yugara/Yagara language group, and also pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, past, present and emerging.

We honor the invaluable contributions of the many incredible (and inspiring) First Nations peoples who are doing incredible work across the local community. Whether it be the profound wisdom (and guidance) of local community Elders and leaders, the contributions of our local First Nations businesses, or the various storytelling initiatives, community projects, language programs, and local advocacy campaigns happening across the region.

This week marks National Reconciliation Week (NRW), held annually from 27 May to 3 June. It is an important opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

This year’s theme, All In, is a powerful reminder that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility. It calls on all Australians to step forward together through listening, learning and taking meaningful action to create lasting change.
