Circles of Care
One of the groups that came together to take on some of the wide-ranging responsibilities that Terry previously shouldered for us all is a ‘pastoral care’ group.

The group is co-led by Heather Eckersley and Lucy Lopez. It includes Wayne Sanderson, Michael Tansky, Terry Fitzpatrick, Ingerid Meagher, Margaret Clifford, Mary & Darryl Nelson, Helen Towler, Grace Yap-Kirk, and Anne Brown.

We felt calling ourselves a pastoral care group could be misleading. Everyone in the community cares for each other and for others, within SMX and beyond – we are all involved in ‘pastoral care’, even if more at some points in our lives than others. We are all also in need of care! We are all part of interweaving circles of care.
Nevertheless, although there is nothing ‘special’ about this group, it can be useful to have particular people to alert, for example, if someone is needing extra assistance or connection, or to organise a gathering that supports us all, so there is value in an
identified group.

To reflect the reality that we all care for each other within the community and beyond, some felt we needed a different name. And so ‘Circles of Care’ was born. When you hear or see that name, you will know that it is a group that can be contacted for support, connection or celebration within all the circles of care that make up our community. We even have a logo and here it is, designed beautifully by Helen. Thank you everyone.
