CRU - Community Resource Unit Ltd. CRU exists to create & promote positive change so that people with disabilities can belong to & actively contribute to social & economic life.

CRU believes that people with disabilities should belong to and participate in community life. This means their interests are best served when they are supported to grow up in a family, go to school at their local neighbourhood school, participate in community activities with their peers, have a home of their own, maintain strong relationships with friends, parents and siblings, work and participate in community life and have their rights as citizens protected.

Who do you turn to when you are facing a challenge?

Friends are people that we trust and respect, who know us well, and who we can expect to look out for our best interests.

Everyone needs to have people who like them and care enough about them to give a different perspective when we feel stuck – or even give honest feedback when it’s needed.

While families and workers can also be good sounding boards, CRU's upcoming workshop on Building Friendships and Connections in Everyday Community Life is about how to ensure people with disabilities also have friends in their life to see them through the ups and downs of life.

Presented by internationally recognised expert Dr Angela Amado, this workshop will focus on how genuine friendships between people with disabilities and community members can become a reality.

Tuesday 23 June, in Coorparoo, Brisbane.

Holding a clearly articulated Vision of the future you want, for yourself or for a family member with disability, is a powerful strategy. Your Vision guides decision-making, helps you to prioritise, and can inspire you and the people you need to support you.

CRU is hosting a series of monthly peer discussions on 'Developing and Sustaining a Vision' at the Indooroopilly Library .

The next discussion is on Tuesday 30th June (10am to 12pm) for people with disabilities and family members.

The focus of this discussion will be starting to write your Vision.

The discussions will be led by Di Kerr, a CRU Facilitator and parent who has first-hand experience of how transformative a positive Vision can be.

Whether you are curious about the difference a positive Vision could make, or you want to re-visit and refresh a long-held Vision, you are welcome to join Di, to connect with others, share ideas and be inspired.

RSVPs are appreciated though you are welcome to pop in on the day. Contact Di at [email protected] or 07 3844 2211.

Friends and family are essential to a good life, but too many people with disability miss out on meaningful, authentic friendships.

Many believe there is nothing we can do if relationships don’t happen “naturally”.

But Dr Angela Amado’s workshop on Building Friendships and Connections in Everyday Community Life will outline the many things family, workers, professionals and allies can do to support and nurture genuine relationships between people with disabilities and community members.

Because everyone deserves a good life! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIbvpVi5Msc&list=PLqk23A8wz4yZKOAmtrp5b0JqgWFirrpER&index=4

Presented by internationally recognised expert Dr Angela Amado, this workshop is for families, workers, professionals and allies to help you make reciprocal and supportive friendships between people with disabilities and community members a reality.
