We’re thrilled to have Dr. Lee Kalcsits joining us as a speaker at the upcoming FGV Conference!

Dr. Kalcsits is a Professor of Tree Fruit Physiology at Washington State University (USA) and Director of the WSU Tree Fruit Research and Extension Centre in Wenatchee.

His research focuses on the interactions between environment, genetics and orchard management in apple, pear and sweet cherry production, with expertise in plant nutrition, rootstocks, abiotic stress and crop load management.

Concerns are growing across horticulture about government water buybacks and their impact on the water market.

FGV has highlighted the pressure on irrigated growers, with increased competition from corporate and institutional investors for high reliability water needed for permanent plantings.

Many family farms are finding it harder to secure the water they rely on to operate.

FGV is calling for greater consideration of the long-term impacts on regional communities and food production.

A huge congratulations to FGV’s Michael Crisera on being elected President of the VFF Horticulture Group.

Michael is a passionate supporter of growers and the horticulture industry, and we know he’ll do a fantastic job in the role.

We are excited to announce the appointment of a new leadership team for VFF Horticulture group, with Goulburn Valley farmer Michael Crisera elected as President.

Joining the leadership group are Kain Richardson as Western Region Councilor, Monre Meyer as Central Region Councilor and Dean Gazzola as Central Region Councilor.

Great to see more than 30 growers and industry members attend the "Irrigation Decisions That Pay" workshop at CherryHill Orchards in Coldstream.

The day included practical discussions around irrigation, soil moisture and tree stress, along with an orchard walk showcasing CherryHill’s irrigation setup firsthand.

Thank you to Charles Thompson and Dr. Doris Blaesing from RMCG for sharing their expertise, and to CherryHill Orchards for hosting the event.

This event was delivered by FGV on behalf of Agriculture Victoria as part of the Victorian government's statewide Drought Support Package.

Fruit Growers Victoria recently attended an export networking and business matching event at MOVE in Shepparton, as part of the Global Victoria Inbound Horticulture Trade Mission.

The event connected growers and exporters with more than 50 international fruit buyers from across Asia, including China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and India, through targeted one-on-one meetings to explore export opportunities.

Supported by Greater Shepparton City Council and Apple and Pear Australia Limited - APAL, the program also highlighted expanding apple access into China and showcased the strength of Victoria’s horticulture sector through visits to local packhouses and coolstores.

A valuable opportunity to build connections and grow future export markets across Asia.
