Tatura Blue Light are proud to partner with local schools, City of Greater Shepparton and Victoria Police to support an exciting new program – Tat-Fit which kicked off on Tuesday.

🏋️‍♂️Week 1 of the TAT-FIT program - building relationships between police and schools in Tatura!

The kids, 10 from each of the primary schools in Tatura met at the Police station, had a quick tour and then received their program kit bags including a police drink bottle, shirt, and some minor stationary type belongings, before filling up their drink bottles and heading out for the afternoon's challenges.

Week 1 challenges:

🚔Team work to push the "divvy" as quick as possible between 2 points (record time was 22 seconds) supported by S/C Tinning's expert steering

💪Workout Jenga – each brick they removed had an exercise on it EG: 5 push ups, 20 sit-ups etc

🍽Nutrition challenge – rank the cereals from least to most sugar in quickest time as a team

✴Knock out Paper scissors rock – workout edition (losing person had to complete 5 push up's until we had one person remaining

This program was developed after feedback from schools, young people and the local community and will run weekly throughout term 1!

The feedback from the volunteers was overwhelming… we were delighted with how well behaved all the kids were at last night’s disco!

The Photo Booth and limbo was a big hit and we had some very happy winners of the prizes which included scooters, under armour backpacks and Squishmallows (Senior constable TINNING - pictured with the winners - was a bit disappointed to not take one home himself).

Some of the prizes lined up for the blue light disco tomorrow night starting at 6pm! See you then!

Q. How do the discos work?

The Disco is held at Victory hall where both halls are utilised - the larger hall for dancing and music, the smaller hall for “chilling out” and having a bit of quiet time or something to eat and drink.

The discos starts at 6pm and runs until 9pm. You can drop off or pick up your child anytime between those times.

A book is kept of parents’ phone numbers ‘just in case’, so you’d be expected to provide a contact number, even if you’re confident your child will remember it.

No child attends or leaves the disco without a parent - so the kids can’t just wander off into the night. There are always committee members in the foyer at all times to ensure everyone stays safe.

It’s $8 for entry and there’s a canteen to purchase soft drinks, water, hot dogs, confectionary and chips so most kids bring a little extra money for treats.

There’s always lucky door prizes, best dressed prizes, limbo prizes and prizes for best behaviour and dancing.

As always you can get in touch with sergeant Peter Aitken or Senior constable Jarryd tinning if you have any questions.

See you Saturday!

Disco this saturday!! but… What is Tatura blue light actually about??

Tatura Blue light was established in 1985. It is an arm of the Blue light charity organisation that creates an opportunity for local police and community members to work collaboratively to host a fun experience for young people in a safe environment.

Who is involved?

Tatura blue light has been driven by Sergeant Darryl Phillips for over 20 years. Sergeant Peter Aitken has been involved since 2017 and is currently the Vice-president. Senior constable Jarryd TINNING is the current committee president and has been involved for several years as well. Other police members regularly volunteer and events are also supported by the Proactive policing Unit based at Shepparton police station.

The events would never be possible without the community volunteers that dedicate the time and effort to organise and run the events. They form the majority of the committee and also form the majority of adults supervising the disco. All volunteers have current working with children’s checks. Most locals will recognise some (if not most) of our volunteers as they are often parents of local school children and also contribute to local sports and community based organisations.
