Portland parkrun

Portland parkrun Portland parkrun is a free, timed, 5km run / walk put on by the community for the community at 8am every Saturday morning in Portland, Victoria.

parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a 5km timed run, jog or walk. It can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. Portland parkrun offers an opportunity for all members of our local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy our beautiful Fawthrop Lagoon area and get physically active in the

process. We want to encourage people to walk, jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! Taking part is easy – just register in advance by 6pm on the Friday before your first ever parkrun event. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there! Safety briefing is at 7:50am, Run Commence.s 8am sharp

Even though it wasn't the best of mornings 55 people still made the effort to join us at our 475th event at Portland. There were 9 tourists from Adelaide, Woodend, Brimbank, Melbourne, Hamilton, Albury/Wadonga, Yackandandah and Traralgon. Six people set new personal best times, they were, Alex Bradbury, Benjamin Bailey, Keith Murray, Luca Carter, Lyn Beard and Olivia Williamson. Also Daniel Hilderbrand and Stef Crncevic achieved their 25 run milestone. Congratulations to all those people, you are legends. As per usual we need to thank our amazing volunteers, without them this wouldn't be happening, so a big shout out goes to Wendy Finnegan, Jan Lineker, Beryl King, Norm Burville, Mike Hillier, Leon Dando, Tracy Jensen, Kristy Hutchins, Brian Glover and Chris King.
To all those runners/walkers that will be taking part in the various distances of the Winter Solstice run tomorrow, good luck and we hope the weather will be kind to you.

What a gorgeous winter morning we enjoyed today! Apart from a light shower right at the start, conditions were great for our 65 participants.

We welcomed tourists from Melbourne, Geelong and Mount Gambier, as well as three people taking part in their very first parkrun. Welcome to the parkrun family!!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

The PB bell was certainly busy this morning, with 13 participants achieving new personal bests. πŸ””

A huge congratulations to Layla Sprague on completing her 25th parkrun milestone. Well done, Layla! πŸŽ‰

A special shout-out goes to Leon, who spent time clearing debris from the course with his industrial broom after floodwaters had covered sections of the track earlier in the week. Your efforts were greatly appreciated. Thank you, Leon! πŸ™

Today’s event was made possible by our fantastic team of 11 volunteers: Christopher King, Brian Glover, Jan Lineker, Tressilla MacLeod, Kaye Childs, David Haliczer, Tracy Jensen, Lisa Johnson, Norman Burville, Leon Dando and Kristy Hutchins.

We still have a few spaces available on upcoming volunteer rosters. If you’d like to help out, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us via Facebook, email or the parkrun app.
