Life at sea is tough. 2024, Insurer Gard reports that 11% of seafarer fatalities are due to suicide—surpassing fatal onboard accidents—with 1 in 5 crew members facing suicidal thoughts amid isolation, conflict zones, and heavy stress. https://bit.ly/4cOv29i

As part of Year 11 PDS Unit 2 - Connecting with Community, our students have been welcoming guest speakers, with more sessions to continue through to the end of term.

Interviewed by Lucas Arnold and Koda MacLeod, Neville Mason from The Mission to Seafarers - Portland shared valuable insights into local career pathways and the importance of community connections. The big barrel tuna are back

Here she is!

All 130.5kg of her.

This is our biggest for the season (so far) 🏆

Congratulations Luke Colville on this trophy fish.

Luke contacted us the other day saying he desperately wanted to get himself a Barrel.
He had done 2 trips already this season with another charter company and bombed out both times.

We gave him a price to book the boat to himself and he didn’t hesitate for a sec and well, the rest is history!

This job is a rollercoaster at times with the highs and lows that come with it, but today the ‘job satisfaction’ meter is full throttle 📈 🙌 😎

Rambo and Dazza you’ve done it again. Well done boys! Super proud of your efforts

MFO meets Brett Jarrett.

A very special visit the the Whale Gallery Portland
Meet & greet with Brett Jarrett for one of the Marine Fauna Observers.

Brett’s illustrations are used in the Whale & Dolphins identification manual.

We were able to purchase & gift a copy of the book to each of the MFO whom we have gotten to know closely by providing transport.

Brett kindly signed each copy

Brett is a world renowned artist. His paintings are beautiful & more like a photograph.

“Talk about a kid in a candy shop lol”

Fine art oil paintings of wildlife, birds, mammals and other illlustrated animals. The work of Brett Jarrett is available for sale online or at Bay of Whales Gallery & Cafe in Narrawong (South West Victoria), a 30-minute drive from Port Fairy.
