Every eligible bottle or can you return helps support programs that create employment pathways and inclusive opportunities for people with disability across hospitality and tourism in Western Australia.

Here is how you can help:

♻️ Collect your eligible cans and bottles at home or work

♻️ Return them through a Containers for Change refund point

♻️ Use our scheme ID when donating to direct funds to HDNWA

♻️ Encourage your workplace, friends, and family to get involved

Small actions add up quickly. A few cans from many people can help build training, support, and employment opportunities that change lives.

🌈 Pride Month is a time to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the right for everyone to feel safe, respected, and valued for who they are.

At HDNWA, we believe hospitality and tourism should be welcoming spaces for all people, including the LGBTQIA+ community. Inclusion creates stronger workplaces, better guest experiences, and communities where everyone can belong.

Western Australia continues to grow as a welcoming destination for LGBTQIA+ travellers, with Perth recognised for its laidback and inclusive atmosphere, vibrant nightlife, festivals, beaches, and community spaces.

This Pride Month, we encourage businesses to continue creating workplaces where people feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.

❓Did You Know?❓

Unemployment for people with disability in Australia remains almost double the rate of people without disability, 7.5% compared to 3.8%.

This gap reflects ongoing barriers that continue to limit access to meaningful work, especially in hospitality and tourism.

This sits within our broader campaign, highlighting the employment barriers faced by people with disability in Western Australia.

It continues to raise awareness across the hospitality and tourism sectors, while sharing practical insights that support more inclusive hiring and workplace practices.

Through this work, we focus on:

✅Practical steps employers can take to create accessible roles

✅Challenging assumptions about disability in the workplace

✅Building stronger understanding of inclusive recruitment in hospitality and tourism

As Makuru settles across Western Australia, we acknowledge the Noongar season of rain, renewal, and connection to Country. Occurring during June and July, Makuru is known as the coldest and wettest time of the year, marked by powerful weather, inland movement, and the beginning of new life as animals pair for breeding.

The landscape transforms during this season, with deep blues and purples emerging through native plants such as the Blueberry Lily and Purple Flags. Makuru reminds us of the importance of adaptability, reflection, and preparation for growth ahead.

At HDNWA, we are inspired by the lessons of the Noongar seasons and the deep knowledge they hold. As we continue working towards more inclusive hospitality, tourism, and events industries across WA, we recognise the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels connected, valued, and supported to thrive.

This Makuru, let’s reflect on how we can continue building stronger communities through inclusion, understanding, and opportunity.

June to July - Makuru, the season spanning from June to July, is the coldest and wettest time of the year — aligning with winter. This is when the Noongar people would move away from the sea and head inland. Away from the cold winds that bring the wet weather.

We are incredibly proud that Hospitality Disability Network WA is the only industry led organisation in WA dedicated to supporting people living with disability into employment across the hospitality and tourism industries.

From Perth to the Pilbara, and Busselton to Broome, we work alongside passionate industry partners to create opportunities, reduce barriers, and help build a more inclusive future for all Western Australians.

This WA Day, we celebrate the power of inclusion, meaningful employment, and communities where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to succeed.

All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026 🤝

This National Reconciliation Week, the theme is All In.

It is a reminder that reconciliation is something we all need to be part of, every day. It is not passive, and it is not the responsibility of First Nations peoples alone.

Reconciliation grows when we listen, learn, and take action in the spaces we are part of, including our workplaces and communities.

This year’s campaign, created with Carbon Creative, features artwork by Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey, celebrating people coming together with shared purpose.
