Support Australia’s First Inclusive Clarinet Collection

Australia is home to an ambitious new initiative dedicated to preserving the history of the clarinet through education, performance and research.

Led by Perth clarinettist and recent UWA Conservatorium graduate Ted Godderidge, the project aims to establish Australia's leading collection of historical clarinets, spanning more than 200 years of musical and technological development. Unlike most historical instrument collections, which remain in private ownership and are rarely accessible, this collection is being developed as a public educational resource.

As the collection continues to grow, Ted will present practical information sessions and hands-on workshops throughout Australia, giving students, performers, educators and researchers the rare opportunity to see, handle and hear historical, unusual and rare clarinets in performance. These sessions will explore the evolution of clarinet construction, materials, keywork systems, pitch standards and acoustical innovation through direct engagement with original historical instruments, creating an educational experience that is currently unavailable anywhere else in the world.

The project is now seeking support from the wider community.

If you own an unwanted vintage, antique or historical clarinet, please consider donating it to the collection. Instruments of all ages, makers and systems may be of historical interest, and every donation has the potential to contribute to preserving Australia's musical heritage for future generations.

Financial donations are also being sought to assist with the acquisition, restoration and conservation of historically significant instruments. All donations of $2 or more through the Australian Cultural Fund are tax deductible, and every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.
