Happy Easter!

In the lead up to Easter, our school community has enjoyed special moments through our Hat parades, Easter picnic, and Whole school assembly.

A wonderful opportunity to reflect on all that has been done for us at the cross, and to celebrate the hope we have in Jesus because the tomb is empty. He is risen!

A special thank you to our beautiful Kindy students for singing and reminding us to share the good news that the tomb is empty and Jesus rose from the dead.

Wishing all our families a safe and restful Easter break.

WHOLE SCHOOL EASTER ASSEMBLY

It was so special to come together as a whole school community to celebrate Easter, joining in singing songs of praise. There is something so meaningful about gathering as one, sharing in this important time together and reflecting on the hope we have.

The Gospel was proclaimed boldly, reminding us of the incredible hope we have. It was also wonderful to have so many of our parents and families join us. Thank you for being part of this special occasion.

As we head into the Easter break, we wish all our families a safe and blessed time. We encourage everyone to reflect on who Jesus is, remember what was accomplished on the cross, and rejoice in the truth that the tomb is empty.

STAGE 6 SENIOR RETREAT

Our Stage 6 students are currently in Sydney for the Senior Retreat, making the most of this valuable opportunity to engage with key curriculum areas, explore university campuses, and share meaningful experiences together as a cohort.

Across the week, students are visiting a range of locations around Sydney, including Long Reef Rock Platform, the UNSW Disease Museum, Macquarie University, the Art Gallery, the University of Sydney, UNSW, the UTS Broadway SHAPE Exhibition, an Automotive Workshop in Auburn, and the Sydney Opera House. They are also touring Robert Menzies College and hearing from OCS Alumni (2025), Jack Flemming, about his transition from school and how the college has become a home away from home during his studies.

MUSIC / ORANGE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT

On Sunday 29 March, five members of the OCS community were part of an outstanding orchestral performance at the Orange Symphony Orchestra concert, performing a challenging program including Sibelius’ Finlandia, Haydn’s Oboe Concerto and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7.

It was wonderful to see strong OCS representation on stage, with five members of our school community involved:
• Eleanor Buchanan (Year 11 student – violin)
• Emily Metcalfe (Year 11 student – violin)
• Geoff Metcalfe (parent – violin)
• Carmel Follent (former OCS music tutor – violin; wife of long-serving science teacher Les Follent)
• Nicki Johnston (Deputy Principal – flute)

We’re so proud of the way our students continue to pursue excellence beyond the classroom and contribute to the wider arts community. Opportunities like this are a powerful reminder of the impact of music and the value of staying connected through it.

Thank you to the Orange Symphony Orchestra for a fantastic concert.

SECONDARY CHOIR & WORSHIP BAND

Today our Secondary Choir and Worship Band had the wonderful opportunity to visit Ascott Gardens, where they performed for residents as part of the Easter celebrations.

It was a special morning of sharing their hard work and talents, bringing joy to those who attended. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and our students represented the school with warmth, respect and enthusiasm.

A meaningful experience for all involved and a great way to serve our wider community.

HARMONY DAY AT OCS

Earlier in the term, our school community came together to celebrate Harmony Day. We recognise the richness of diversity, the importance of belonging, and the way God calls us to love one another.

In Prep, students created a vibrant craft display featuring uniquely designed fish, each one different, yet all part of the same school. This served as a powerful reminder that while we are all unique, we are united as one community.

Our Primary students explored this message through a Harmony Day colouring competition, with awards presented at Assembly to celebrate their creativity and effort.

In Secondary, students engaged in meaningful Homeroom discussions centred on cultural diversity, reflecting on the importance of respect, empathy and understanding in our world.

A beautiful chalk artwork, created by students, captured the heart of the day, reminding us of how we are called to treat one another:
“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

It has been a special opportunity to celebrate that while we are all wonderfully unique, we belong, we are included, and we are deeply loved by God. Together, we are called to live in harmony as one community.
