🌿 10 quick sustainability wins for busy teachers 🍎📚
Between lesson planning and marking, who has time for big sustainability projects? The good news — you don't need to! Even small changes in one classroom can build habits students carry for a lifetime. 💚
Here are 10 easy wins to get started:
1. 📄 Create a Scrap Paper Drawer - one-sided paper is perfect for drafts, sketches and quick maths before recycling
2. 🖨️ Print Double-Sided by Default - cut your classroom paper use in half instantly
3. 💻 Go Digital for Notes & Homework - less printing = less paper waste AND less clutter!
4. 💡 Switch Off When Leaving - make it a class habit to turn off lights, projectors and computers at the end of the day
5. ♻️ Create Student Sustainability Roles - recycling monitors, energy checkers… outsourcing to students is always a win-win!
6. 🍌 Start a Classroom Compost Bin - collect food scraps to add to your school's compost or worm farm
7. ✏️ Collect Old Stationery for Recycling - broken pencils, dry textas and old highlighters can be recycled at places like Officeworks!
8. 🥗 Try "No-Waste" Lunch Days - challenge students to go packaging-free with reusable containers and water bottles
9. 📦 Share Resources Between Classrooms - before ordering new supplies, check what a colleague already has
10. 🪴 Add Indoor Plants - connect students with nature while sneaking in lessons on ecology and responsibility
Sustainability doesn't have to be perfect or complicated. Every small step counts! 🌍✨
