WheelEasy access app Get Out & About! Access Information For People With Mobility Needs And Their Families & Friends They wanted to change this. Does it have a beach wheelchair?

From a new Australian charity, WheelEasy has a refreshing aim; to create better access to leisure activity for people with mobility needs , with their family and friends, and others whose quality of life depends on a better level of mobility. It's is an Access Information Website born from the experiences of husband-and-wife team Max Burt and Justine O'Brien. It's a one-stop shop to enable a more

enjoyable and accessible life for wheelchair users, others with mobility issues, their families & their friends, as well as parents pushing prams. Most access info is on hundreds of different sites, or not even easily available. Too often, Max and Justine ended up making calls, on top of doing research on the net – often still arriving to find the day out spoilt by the inaccessible. So they created WheelEasy; a sort of TripAdvisor for everything to do with access to all sorts of places, like beaches, cinemas, and train stations. It’s for mobiles, so you can be spontaneous. And it’s geolocated so you can see what’s nearby. Questions like; How do I get on to that beach? What’s the gradient like? How about accessible toilets or parking nearby? And restaurants or bars around there? Are there outside tables if you can't get in? How about rolling routes nearby? And transport links? Is there a train station nearby etc? become easy to answer when you have all the information to hand, with you on your phone, listed all in one place. With all that already published date pooled in one place on your phone, the aim to grow the site by creating a "community" of wheelies; empowering people to come together in one online community, to share their access knowledge. Useful because it’s from those who know.

“Follow wheelchairs, they always find a way.” 🦽

Stairs. Barriers. Detours. Dead ends.

For most people, this is a minor inconvenience. For wheelchair users, it’s Tuesday.

Next time you’re out, try it — follow the accessible route. Notice the extra distance. The ramps hidden around the back. The lifts tucked where no one can find them. The workarounds that were never meant to be workarounds.

That’s the reality we’re mapping — so it doesn’t have to be a surprise every single time.

🗺️ Volunteer Expo — Mapping Waverley with Everyone

Last Saturday we joined Waverley Council’s Volunteer Expo at the Boot Factory in Bondi Junction — and what a morning it was!

We’re thrilled to be launching a joint initiative with Waverley Council to map accurate accessibility information for every place in the Waverley LGA. Parks, cafés, transport, toilets, playgrounds — if it matters to someone with a mobility need, we want it on the map. A huge thank you to Emma for all your incredible help, and to Waverley Council, David Cutler and Annabelle Hayter for your support in making this happen. 💙

Want to get involved? 📍 Join us at our Mapping Day on 19 September 2026 at the Boot Factory, Bondi Junction — one of the most accessible venues around. 📲 Register in the link Below to Join us on mapping day the 19th September at the Boot Factory in Bondi Junction ! 🦽

🎆 Vivid is back and this year, no one gets left behind.

We’ve done the hard accessibility work so you don’t have to. Here’s your precinct-by-precinct guide:

Barangaroo 🚇
Take the accessible Metro at Barangaroo Station or get dropped off at 4/54 wharf at Walsh Bay, there are accessible toilets at the station, in the Cutaway and next to Towns place. Follow Wulugul Walk south along the flat waterside route. Skip Argyle Street — it’s steep from Barangaroo going up and you’ll have to do double the effort.

Cockle Bay & Darling Harbour 🎡
Best option? Light Rail to Exhibition Centre — flat, easy, and drops you right at the free Tumbalong Park concerts. Alternatively, train to Town Hall and take the lift down to the promenade. Tip:

Circular Quay 🎭
Drop off at the Opera House gate. Free accessible buggy and shuttle run from Friday evenings. Use Wynyard station — not Circular Quay. Check our website for the full breakdown.

🚗 Driving? Road closures run Friday to Sunday nights. Buses relocate to Martin Place and light rail is disrupted around Circular Quay and Town Hall. Plan ahead!

Everything — entrances, toilets, drop-offs, lifts, and viewing areas — is mapped and verified across all three precincts on 👉 wheeleasy.org

Charge your phone, open WheelEasy, and go enjoy Vivid. 🎆

Imagine being on a long-haul flight and not being able to use the toilet. 😶

This is the reality for many wheelchair users. Airplane toilets are tiny — and we mean tiny. There’s barely enough room for an aisle chair, let alone space to close the door and manage independently.

Some cabin crews will do their best, using privacy curtains so a carer can help without the door needing to shut. But it’s awkward, it causes a queue, and it means planning every trip around how long you can hold on.

So next time someone tells you wheelchair users “just don’t like flying”… now you know one very real reason why.

Would you board a long-haul flight if accessing the toilet wasn’t guaranteed? Share your comments👇

We almost missed the train to Newcastle (no ramp, classic) — but we’re so glad we made it to the Hunter Disability Expo! 🦽
Incredible connections, passionate people, and some serious IBOT admiration from everyone we met. 😄

The big news? We’ve now mapped 289 locations across Newcastle and the Hunter area — up from 144 last year.

Double the access info, double the impact. 📍

Shoutout to everyone we connected with, especially the teams at Amputees NSW, Levaro Allied Health, and Independent Mobility and Rehab — watch this space. 👀

Progress happens when passionate people come together. And this year felt extra special. 💙
