Canteen Australia

Canteen Australia Life-changing support for young people impacted by cancer. (ABN: 77 052 040 516 We get it. Canteen is the game changer. That’s how Canteen is the difference.

Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer crashes into a young person’s world and shatters everything. We help young people cope with cancer in their family. Through Canteen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same boat and if they’ve been diagnosed themselves, we provide specialist, youth-specific treatment teams.

By feeling understood and supported, young people develop resilience and can rebuild the foundations that crumbled beneath them when cancer turned their life upside down.

Canteen programs give young people a break from the daily realities of cancer, and a space to just be young people.

That means connecting with others their own age who truly understand, having fun, and making positive memories, even when things at home might be hard. It also means learning new ways to cope, together.

Canteen runs programs like this all year across the country, in person, online and overnight. 💚 Thank you for helping make these experiences possible.

🦋💚 Emily Scolyer was our top City2Surf fundraiser, raising an incredible $7,000, with the help of her sister Lucy and brother Matt.
After recently losing their dad, Richard Scolyer, to cancer earlier this year, Emily and her siblings took on the City2Surf alongside friends and family to raise money to support other young Australians impacted by cancer.

Dressed as butterflies, Emily and her friends crossed the finish line with huge smiles, and gave our Canteen team the biggest cheer!
For the Scolyers, the run was a way to turn something incredibly difficult into something that could help others.

Thank you to Emily, Lucy, Matt and everyone who generously supported them.

Bandanna Day is back 💙

We're inviting schools across Australia to get behind Canteen's biggest fundraiser of the year.

By encouraging your child's school to take part in Bandanna Day, you'll be helping raise vital funds so young people facing their own cancer diagnosis, or the cancer of someone they love, can access free counselling, peer support and life-changing programs.

It's also a wonderful opportunity for students to take initiative, work together and make a real difference in their community.

Speak to your child's school about getting involved and help bandanna-fy classrooms across Australia this October. 🙌

$16,000. One incredible team. One very special reason to run. 💚
Team Glennspiration™️ raised an incredible $16,000 at City2Surf in honour of Glenn, who sadly passed away a few months ago and was Canteen’s top fundraiser last year.
This year, his community came together to keep his legacy of supporting families impacted by cancer going.
Thank you to everyone who ran, donated and supported Team Glennspiration. What a powerful way to honour Glenn and show what’s possible when a community rallies together.

Looking to show your support? We are SO close to hitting $40,000. Please help us get there by donating at https://city2surf26.grassrootz.com/canteen

It's more than a bandanna. It’s a way to show up for young Aussies facing cancer - whether it’s their own diagnosis or someone they love.

A symbol of support. A conversation starter. A reminder that no young person has to face cancer alone.

Mark your calendar: 29 October. Bandanna Day is back and we're asking everyone to show up with a bandanna.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing how you can get involved, rally your community and help make a difference for young people impacted by cancer.

Ready to show up? Stay tuned…💚

🏃‍♀️💚 City2Surf 2026 was one to remember!
132 Canteen runners hit the pavement and raised an incredible $39,556 to support young people impacted by cancer.

From the Charity Village at the finish line, we watched our runners cross the line with huge smiles, celebrating a challenge they’d conquered - and knowing every step had helped young people access life-changing support.

Behind every runner was a reason to be there. Some ran in honour of someone they love. Some ran because they understand, first-hand, what it means to have cancer impact your life. And some ran simply to stand alongside a community that offers young people the support, connection and understanding they need when cancer changes things.

Together, they’ve raised an incredible amount - and we’re so close to $40,000!
Help us reach the finish line and support even more young Aussies impacted by cancer. Donate here: https://city2surf26.grassrootz.com/canteen

A huge thank you to every runner, donor and volunteer who made City2Surf 2026 one to remember. 💚

If your child is facing cancer, you've probably noticed it: they can feel like no one their own age really understands what they're going through.

That's what Canteen Connect is here for. It brings young people impacted by cancer together with others who've been there too, so they don't have to explain the parts that are hard to put into words. Some connect by chatting online whenever they need to, others prefer meeting up through events happening in their state.

If you think your child could benefit from connecting with others who get it, find out more about Canteen Connect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m4XH8eAP7k

No young person should have to face cancer alone. 💙

Recently, 21 young people from across Australia came together for PEER - Canteen’s secondary therapeutic camp for under 18s impacted by cancer.

They took part in meaningful therapeutic groups, built confidence, shared experiences and connected with others who truly understand what they’re going through. There was also plenty of time for fun, with archery tag, an unforgettable UV party, creative workshops and animal encounters with some furry and scaly friends.

For many young people impacted by cancer, meeting someone who just gets it can make a world of difference. Peer support helps young people feel less alone, build resilience and feel more equipped to cope with the challenges cancer brings.

Through camps like PEER, Canteen creates spaces where young people can form friendships, find support and know they’re not alone. 💙

For a young person impacted by cancer, loneliness can hit in a way that's hard to put into words. Even with friends and family trying their best to understand, it can feel like no one else really gets it.

That's why Canteen brings together young Aussies aged 12 to 25 who've been impacted by cancer, whether through their own diagnosis or a loved one's. And it works: 89% of young people tell us they feel less isolated and alone after joining Canteen.

This Loneliness Awareness Week, please share this post. Your share could help another young person find their way to a community that understands what they're going through.
