Got Your Back Sista

Got Your Back Sista Got Your Back Sista empowers and supports women and their children to begin again after experiencing domestic and family violence.

Got Your Back Sista is a registered charity which aims to support other women, including our most vulnerable sistas, those who have escaped a violent relationship and must start their lives again. Currently based in NSW, we work directly with domestic violence services and refuges, by referral only, to provide:

1. BEGIN AGAIN PROGRAM - helping women and children, moving from a refuge to independe

nt living, setup a safe home by providing furniture, white goods and household items, plus food and personal care items.

2. RISE UP AND THRIVE PROGRAM - aims to help women who have escaped domestic violence gain the confidence, support and skills they need to be happy, obtain employment and thrive. The Rise Up and Thrive program comprises workshops, mentoring, reskilling (if needed), work experience and employment opportunities for participants.

3. STAND TALL SISTA PROGRAM - helping women to feel mentally and physically strong through 10 weeks of self-defence training. This is a great opportunity for women to learn tips and techniques to feel empowered and safe, and to learn about personal space and boundaries and what to do if you feel threatened. Unfortunately, domestic violence is prevalent in our country and the single biggest driver of women in to poverty, which in turn has a significant impact on their well-being, health and happiness. Our vision is to see women and their children happy, thriving and living independently after escaping the trauma of domestic violence.

💛 National Child Protection Week 2026

This year’s theme is “Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action.”

Conversations can raise awareness, build understanding and help children and families feel heard — but real change happens when we turn those conversations into action.

Whether it’s checking in, speaking up, listening to a child, supporting a family or connecting someone with help, we all have a role to play.

At Got Your Back Sista, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, heard, valued and supported.

This National Child Protection Week, let’s turn important conversations into meaningful action. 💛

Thank you, Maitland!

Last week, our Community, Fundraising & Events Manager Susi, alongside long-time GYBS supporter and volunteer Roz, were pleased to accept generous ClubGRANTS funding from Easts Bowling Golf Club and Club Maitland City at a beautiful morning tea in the sunshine. It was wonderful to be among so many deserving recipients whose ongoing work and support of our local community can often go unnoticed.

With increasing demand from women across Maitland, this funding will support our Begin Again: 360 Approach — providing wraparound support as women and their children leave domestic and family violence, establish safety and rebuild their lives.

A huge thank you to both Clubs and their Boards for continuing to invest in our community.
