Artistic Swimming WA

Artistic Swimming WA The governing body for Artistic Swimming in Western Australia, providing opportunities to compete

Artistic Swimming is one of the most enjoyable aquatic activities available. It is an exciting sport that combines swimming, dance and gymnastics all into one! Synchro can be anything participants want it to be, from a purely recreational activity to one of the most challenging Olympic sports. As long as a person can swim, synchro can be a sport for all ages and everyone can experience its fun, fitness and friendship!

The best thing about this sport isn't the medals or the routines.

It's watching a coach pour everything into an athlete who's just finding their feet. It's seeing someone who's been in the pool for years turn around and make space for someone new. It's that moment when a young swimmer realises: I can do this. I belong here.

Right now, pre-season is firing. Our coaches are shaping the next generation β€” not just as athletes, but as people. That's the magic of what we do.

If you've got a coach, mentor, or teammate who's believed in you β€” tag them below. Let them know they matter.

She started swimming at six years old β€” to feel close to her grandfather. πŸ’™

Meet Alexandra Del Sorbo, Head Coach of Swan River Sirens and one of the most experienced coaches in our community.

Alex began her artistic swimming journey in Italy, competing from the age of six and returning to the sport at fifteen to win regional titles in solo and duet. Not long after, she started coaching β€” and in her very first season led her team to the Italian National Championships.

Nearly 20 years of coaching later, Alex moved to Perth in 2020, became Head Coach of SupaNova, and went on to join the Australian Junior National Team coaching staff.

Three years ago she founded Swan River Sirens, which she describes as one of the most rewarding experiences of her career.

Away from the pool, Alex teaches Italian, French and Drama at Willetton Senior High School, runs her own personal training business, and is working towards a dream of creating an aquatic theatre production one day.

Oh β€” and she's a professional bodybuilder. πŸ‹οΈ

We are so glad you found your way to WA, Alex. Our community is better for it.

Pre-season is the perfect time to go back to basics. 🌊

When it comes to figures, everything starts with your scull.
Strong, controlled sculling is what gives you height β€” and height is one of the key things judges are looking for. Without a solid scull underneath you, even the most beautiful body position won't reach its potential.

This pre-season, try this: dedicate the first 10 minutes of each pool session to sculling laps with a single focus. Pick one thing β€” speed, depth, wrist angle β€” and work just that. Clean technique before anything else.

Our first Figures Competition is on Sunday 27 September. That's just over three months away. The work you put in now is exactly what shows up on the day.

What's your figures focus this pre-season? Drop it in the comments πŸ‘‡

What a season. 🌊

We went into 2025–2026 with big goals for growing our sport across WA β€” and our community showed up in a way that honestly blew us away.

7,024 participation events. Over 2,000 people experienced artistic swimming this season. From school pools in Perth to the Pilbara, Kimberley, Goldfields, Margaret River and beyond β€” WA is falling in love with this sport.

We launched AquaStART in Margaret River. We held our first-ever regional competition. We ran our 'We All Swim Together' disability inclusion event. We delivered sessions for seniors in Perth and Bunbury. We trained new coaches and mentors right across the state.

None of this happens without every single person who said yes this season β€” our athletes, coaches, judges, volunteers, school partners, and the families who drove early mornings and cheered from the stands.

A huge thank you to our major sponsors Hancock Prospecting and Mrs Gina Reinhart for making so much of this possible. Your support means more to this community than we can say.

The 2026–2027 season begins on 1 July. We can't wait to see what we build next together. πŸ’™

Today we’re looking back on an incredible April at the National Championships in Sydney! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ’™

What an incredible 2025–2026 Artistic Swimming school season! 🌊✨

Over three terms, we had the privilege of visiting 6 amazing schools, introducing students to the sport of artistic swimming and creating so many memorable experiences along the way.

We are so grateful for the positive feedback, enthusiasm, and support from students, teachers, and school communities. We’re especially excited to continue building these relationships into the future and can’t wait to see many familiar faces again next season!

Thank you to every school that welcomed us this year, we look forward to expanding our reach and sharing the joy of artistic swimming with even more schools across our community in the years ahead πŸ’™

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Volunteer Week Breakfast & Catch Up this morning πŸ’™

While we were sorry not to see everyone able to make it, today was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge all of our incredible community volunteers across Artistic Swimming WA.

Your time, passion, energy and dedication make such a difference to our athletes, clubs and community. Quite simply, without our volunteers, there would be no artistic swimming in WA.

Thank you for everything you do, we appreciate you more than words can say! ✨

Volunteering WA thank you for making today possible!

Meet Abigail. πŸ’™

At 16, Abi has already figured out something it takes most people years to learn β€” that the best way to love a sport is to give back to it.

After six years in the water, coming all the way from a gymnastics background, Abi found her home in artistic swimming with South West Kwilena in Bunbury. And this year, she took it one step further. Becoming an assistant coach for the newest members of her club.

Six months into volunteering and she's already making a difference to the next generation of swimmers coming through.

This is what our community looks like. We're so proud of you, Abi. 🌊

Meet Emma-Mae. πŸ’™

As President of SupaNova Artistic Swimming Club, Emma-Mae doesn't just lead β€” she builds.

From developing club policies and guidelines to driving coach development, Emma-Mae works tirelessly to make sure every athlete, coach, parent and volunteer in her club feels supported and valued.

Her VP Lesley says it best: her unwavering commitment, transparency and dedication have helped create a community where everyone belongs.

That's the kind of leadership that makes our whole sport stronger.

Thank you, Emma-Mae. We see you. πŸ™

Two years old and already going strong. πŸ’™

Swan River Sirens Artistic Swimming Club was established in May 2024, and from day one, it's been the parents who made it possible.

Our SRS committee volunteers β€” Tara, Lauren, Oa, Lissette, Calvin, Cara, Tony and Luke β€” have been there since the very beginning. Fundraising, running competitions, managing the club behind the scenes, and showing up week after week because they believe in what they're building.

As Tara puts it: "The Sirens parents have become the backbone of the club."

Three years in, and that backbone is only getting stronger. We're so proud to have you in our community. 🌊
