FAQ -

Can anyone join? You will need to be an adult (18 years or older). All applications are welcome. The committee will evaluate all applications. All new members are subject to a probationary period. What is the procedure for joining BAWA?

1. Meet and greet with a senior member of Blacksmith Association of WA. Note: Usual meet and greet days are generally Weekends

2. Introduction to Blacksm

ithing Workshop (IBW) - $300, runs over one day. (For beginners)
Note: We do recognise other organisations' blacksmithing workshop & courses and you can approach the committee with a evidentiary claim of experience to join.

3. Once a person has successfully completed the IBW they can apply to become a member of the Blacksmith Association. Note: Completing the course is not automatic entry into the association. Joining fee is $110 (Pro Rata December)

How much does it cost?
$110 annual membership and $10 per visit to cover the costs of fuels and consumables. When are we open? Usually Wednesday, Saturday & Sundays when the Claremont Showgrounds are open. We are typically open from 9am to 2pm. (Unless grounds are closed due to events)

Where do you meet? The Claremont Showgrounds. 1 Graylands Road, Claremont. What experience do I need? Having a practical experience with tools is helpful but not essential. A common sense approach is a requisite for working with hot metal and power tools. Do you hold demonstrations for special interest groups for the community and/or other businesses? Email us to enquire at [email protected]

What do I wear? Natural fibre clothing (non-synthetic). Higher synthetic clothing are more flammable, and can melt on you. Leather work shoes. Synthetic shoes will burn or melt quickly with solid fuel dropped on them. Hearing protection is required. Safety glasses are mandatory.
