726,000 seedlings later, the scale of change at Eurardy is impossible to miss.

Since 2019, seedlings from 85 native species have been planted across the reserve as part of our long-term restoration partnership with Bush Heritage Australia.

This 2026 drone image captures the scale of that growth, with native vegetation now filling out across the restoration area. Monitoring has also recorded naturally regenerating trees, an encouraging sign of continued ecosystem recovery.

We’re proud to welcome Tim Jarvis AM as Regenerate Australia’s Patron.

Tim is an environmental scientist, explorer and 2024 Australian of the Year for South Australia. He founded The Forktree Project on the Fleurieu Peninsula and is known worldwide for recreating the historic Antarctic journeys of Sir Douglas Mawson and Sir Ernest Shackleton to advocate for climate action.

As Patron, Tim will champion our mission to restore Australian ecosystems and support the communities connected to them.

These images show what five years of regeneration can achieve.

In 2020, work began to restore 65 hectares of degraded farmland in Cranbrook, on Minang Noongar Country. Working with the landholders and Threshold Environmental, the project was carefully designed to help reduce salinity and soil erosion, improve the condition of the land and restore biodiversity.

By 2025, native trees, shrubs and groundcovers were thriving across the site. During our fifth annual monitoring assessment, we recorded birds and other wildlife using the regenerating vegetation, showing that the site is providing valuable habitat as it becomes more established. Since the previous year’s assessment, trees in the Biodiverse Carbon area had also increased in average height by 30%, while the Biodiverse Sandalwood and Saltland Carbon areas recorded growth of 17% and 14% respectively.

Restoring land takes time, care and long-term commitment, but the results speak for themselves.

After months of co-design, planning and site preparation, planting day for the Raukkan Community Pocket Forest finally arrived.

Over two days, our team worked alongside the ALT Raukkan Rangers and The Forktree Project to plant 1,500 locally native seedlings, bringing the community's vision to life.

While this marks an exciting milestone, it's only the beginning.

The ALT Raukkan Rangers will be the ongoing custodians of the forest and the surrounding space, caring for the seedlings as they establish and helping shape the site as it evolves over time. This is a multi-stage project, with future stages continuing to build on the community's vision to create a place where people can gather, camp and strengthen their connection to Country.

We're proud to be playing a supporting role in this journey and look forward to continuing our partnership with the Ngarrindjeri Community as the forest grows.

Every Community Pocket Forest starts with a vision. However, making that vision a reality takes careful preparation.

Before the first seedling can be planted, the site itself has to be ready to support a thriving forest.

As we prepared the site for our Raukkan Community Pocket Forest, it became clear the heavy clay soils weren't suitable for planting. Rather than planting into poor conditions, the ground was carefully built up to create a healthier growing environment. This important preparation helps the seedlings establish strong root systems and gives the future forest the best possible foundation.

It's work that often goes unseen, but creating the right conditions is just as important as planting itself.

A huge thank you to Fleurieu Landscape Solutions and The Forktree Project for helping prepare the site and laying the foundations for a forest that will continue growing for years to come.

A Community Pocket Forest is much more than a collection of native plants.

It's a space designed by the community, for the community; bringing together nature, culture and connection in places where people can gather for generations to come.

Every Community Pocket Forest begins by listening.

At Raukkan on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe (Country), we recently spent time with the ALT Raukkan Rangers and community Elders to understand what this place should become. Rather than arriving with a predetermined design, our role was to support a vision shaped by the community itself.

That vision was brought to life by Elder Aunty Betty Sumner, who sketched the first concept on the back of a Ute. Inspired by the Ngarrindjeri shield, the design reflects culture, identity and connection to Country.

The best places aren't imposed. They're created together.

Not all native seed is the same.

Where possible, we collect seed from remnant vegetation growing in and around the landscapes we're restoring. This is known as provenance; using seed that is naturally adapted to the local climate, soils and environmental conditions.

By restoring landscapes with locally sourced seed, we're not simply planting native species. We're helping rebuild ecosystems with the genetic diversity and resilience they need to thrive into the future.

It's a slower, more careful approach to restoration, but it's one that gives nature the best chance to recover.

Every seed collected today has the potential to become tomorrow's habitat for birds, pollinators and other native wildlife.

Last month, our team joined the Ngarrindjeri Community and The Forktree Project for the first planting at our Raukkan restoration project on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe (Country).

Together, we planted the first locally native seedlings that will help restore 20 hectares of degraded Mallee Eucalyptus woodland. Over time, this restoration will increase biodiversity, create habitat for native wildlife and support the long-term recovery of this important landscape.

This milestone marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to restoring Country through collaboration, with the Ngarrindjeri Community, The Forktree Project and our project partners all playing an important role.

Restoration is not a numbers race.

Success for us isn't measured by how many trees are planted. It's measured by how well nature recovers.

That's why we don't simply plant as many trees as possible. We carefully select locally native trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers that belong in each landscape, creating the diversity needed to support wildlife, improve soil health and build resilient ecosystems over time.
