WESA (Western Electric Sporting Association) provides opportunities for electric wheelchair users to participate in team sporting events at Local, State and National levels of competition. POWER CHAIR HOCKEY Round 7 Wrap

As we draw 2025 to a close this was the last round of hockey for the year.

Congratulations to Tristan on passing 150 career goals.

With a couple of people away this week we has to mix the teams a little.

We ended up playing 3vs3

Wild West Wheeler was represented by Scott Sammy and Ryan
Stirling sharks players for the week Tristan Jeff and Joe

Game 1 showed how even the teams turned out to be with the wheelers taking victory over the sharks 9 to 7. Top Goal Scorer for the game was Scott with 9

This game saw another T Stick break. I wonder if we can get through a round without a break in 2026

Game 2 of the day was won by the wheelers 12 goals to the sharks 4. Top goal scorer for the game was Scott with 10.

The league will be on break until after the Australia Day long weekend.

Good luck to players from both teams that will be proudly representing Perth at the 2026 Club Championships in Sydney from 16-18 Jan 2026

Throw your Support behind the players as we strive to bring the trophy home.

DECEMBER 3 2025 is International Day of People with Disability

Today we recognise International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), this is an initiative that celebrates the achievements & contributions of people with disability, while asking everyone to do there part in making the world a more inclusive space for all.

Our Powerchair Hockey league is a big part of social progress and inclusiveness as it allows all of our members to be a part of a team and work together to try and get a win, while also having alot of fun.

While we can get rather serious and competitive during the game it is important to remember we are all friendly off the court and attending these games this gives many of us the ability to socialize with the other players before and after the games.

Our aim is to create an environment where everyone can participate to the best of their ability and feel valued and included.

IDPwD reminds us that people with disabilities need different environments where they can participate fully and thrive. Together, we must continue to build on what we have for better inclusion for all people with disabilities in WA.

It’s time to bring you the Round 6 Power Chair Hockey Wrap.

Firstly Congratulations to players that brought up a milestone during this round.

Tom Bartlett bringing up 600 career games
Sammy Debonde bringing up 50 career games

Game one was Wild West Wheeler 17 to Stirling Sharks 5

Scott Topham top scoring with 10 goals and a shout out to Sarah Kerr for scoring her first goal of the season

Game 2 was a rather bruising and hard fought game that just went the Wheelers way. The teams gave it there all with a few new scratches and bruises as a result of neither team giving up on keeping or trying to steal the ball.

The final whistle went with the Wheelers 7 and the Sharks 6.

Top scorer for the Wheelers was Scott with 7 and Jack O’keefe scoring 4 for the Sharks

Game 2

It's been a whirlwind couple of months for one of our Powerchair Hockey athletes in Scott Topham. At the end of the 24/25 season, he won Fairest and Best, most assists and best attacking player. Then Scott graduated year 12, was named WADSA Junior Sports Star of the Year, and finally was selected to play for the Australian Sliders National Team at the World Cup in Finland next year. From everyone at WESA and the wider powerchair sports community, a massive congratulations to you Scott, we know you’ll do us proud!

That’s a wrap of our 2024/2025 Powerchair hockey season. We celebrated the season winners of Stirling Sharks and Scott being named fairest and best player. A huge thanks to partners, family, friends and support workers who made the night such a success. To our sponsors that make the season possible we thank you 🤩

Whilst it was a little loud to do the round by round summary on the night here is Dylan’s wrap up;

We saw the biggest winning margin for the Sharks in Round 1, winning by 7 in game 2. The Wheelers biggest win was in round 6, the game finishing with an 8 point lead. Well done to our primary goal keepers Sam and Tom who only let in 0 and 1 goals respectively in those games.

Round 3 featured a couple of close games, first a draw and then Sharks securing a 1 point win. Jack and Tristan were standouts for the day, both scoring 10 goals each.

Round 7 saw Scott with his highest tally for the season, scoring 11 goals across the two games.

Round 8 would definitely be the most enthralling day of the season with a total of 35 goals – Jack with 15, Tristan with 11 and Scott with 6 goals and 3 assists. This round also saw Jeff score his first goal. This highly competitive round saw the Wheelers winning the first game 11-10 and Sharks stealing the second win 8-6.

Rounds 9 and 10 were good days for Mel, scoring 4 and 6 goals respectively. Joe saved his best till last scoring 5 goals for the day in round 10.
