Sometimes the most sustainable solution is simply making better use of the resources we already have.

This article from The Australian Farmer highlights how equipment hire is helping Australian farmers embrace circular economy principles by accessing the tools they need, when they need them, rather than investing in assets that may sit idle for long periods.

It's a great reminder of the important role the hire industry plays in supporting smarter, more efficient and sustainable ways of working.

At the , we're proud to champion an industry that delivers real value for businesses, communities and the environment.

Following the success of a similar event earlier this year for WorkSafe Victoria, interest from SafeWork NSW was overwhelming, with 80 inspectors registering to attend. To meet demand, a second Demo day has been scheduled for next month.

Supported by Merlo Australia, , JLG Industries, , Equipment Safety Systems (EQSS), Ahern Australia | Snorkel, Monitor, Almac Pacific and , the day featured live demonstrations and direct interaction with machine experts.

Inspectors explored:
Machine types and selection
Emergency retrieval and secondary guarding systems
Machine operation and safety features
Hands-on familiarisation with machine controls in a supervised environment

The day also highlighted the resources and training EWPA provides to support a safer industry, including our Good Practice Guide, technical guidance documents and toolbox talks.

A huge thank you to all participating organisations and SafeWork NSW for their commitment to improving safety across the EWP industry.

Investing in people is investing in the future of our industry.

It was fantastic to officially launch the 2026/27 Women in Hire and Young Professionals Development Programs at CEA in Perth, bringing together professionals committed to growing their skills, networks and leadership capability.

These programs continue to play an important role in developing future industry leaders and creating connections across the hire sector.

While in Perth, Sally Cannon and Aileen Hiskins also had the opportunity visiBrooks Hire Service Pty Ltd to catch up with two participants from last year's program - Katie Usher and Blair Chamberlain as well as Jacinta O’Brien - a passionate Women in Hire advocate. Seeing the ongoing impact of these initiatives firsthand was a great reminder of why they matter.

We're excited to support another cohort on their development journey and look forward to seeing what they achieve in the year ahead.

Thanks again to our Program Supporters Kennards Hire Onsite Rental Group Select Plant Australia Pty Ltd and as well as hosts CEA and JLG Industries

Helping young people discover careers in hire is a key strategic priority. Recently, Nicolas Chiew presented to Catholic Schools NSW at their Transitions and Pathways (TaP) meeting, connecting with educators who support students as they plan their futures.

The session showcased Australia's $12 billion hire industry, highlighting the diverse sectors we serve, real career pathways, and the opportunities available across HRIA member businesses.

With Catholic Schools NSW representing approximately 590 schools and 270,000 students, this was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of hire as a career of choice. The positive response has already sparked interest in further presentations across regional NSW and we will also be looking at similar opportunities across the country.

We're excited to continue building awareness of the rewarding careers our industry offers.
