There are times when weโre reminded that not everyone realises SAFE is a charity โ and that can be difficult.
We absolutely welcome feedback when itโs respectful and constructive. What can be challenging is the expectation that we should operate like a fully staffed professional organisation, while forgetting that SAFE is run by volunteers who give their time freely around work, study, family and other commitments.

Recently, weโve been accused of โmoney-grabbingโ and taking too long with adoptions. Honestly, thatโs disappointing and frustrating. We work incredibly hard to run SAFE as professionally as possible, within the very real limitations of being a volunteer-run charity.
Our adoption process isnโt designed to make things difficult or to waste anyoneโs time. Itโs deliberately thorough because adopting an animal is a serious, long-term commitment. Every question we ask, every document we provide and every step we take is there for a reason โ ultimately to give the cats in our care the best possible chance of a safe, happy and permanent home.
We know times are tough. We know people are busy and sometimes waiting can be frustrating. But weโre also doing a difficult job, often behind the scenes, and doing our very best with the resources we have.
We donโt expect everyone to agree with every decision we make. We do, however, ask for a little understanding, kindness and respect.
