Today is Grandparents Day, a day to celebrate Grandparents and Grandparent figures in our lives. Read about how Chloe is celebrating and honouring the role grandparents play below ⬇️ ⬇️
Grandparents have always held a special place in my life, and I consider myself extremely lucky that I have three sets of grandparents, who have each taught me the importance of respect, and showing up for others, and just how far unconditional love can go.
At South east Volunteers (SEV), we work closely with an elder demographic, providing services to elder individuals and employing volunteers who are a little older in life, so by default a large portion of our community is made up of grandparents who continue to give their time, energy and wisdom to those who need it most, long after most would have retired.
Grandparents shape families and communities in ways that often go unnoticed. They share their life lessons, offer guidance and create memories and traditions that last for generations. My grandad’s strength, kindness and dedication to his community and family for example has reminded me how much power older generations obtain and how they shape the foundations for future generations. This isn’t something we should be taking for granted, wisdom is power, and power is the future.
This grandparent’s day, I encourage everyone to join me and take the day to appreciate and celebrate all the grandparents in your life. Tell them what they mean to you whether that be through a phone call, a coffee or a letter. However, you wish to display your gratitude, make it from the heart.
At SEV we are proud to support so many incredible elder volunteers who continue to make our community stronger and who continue to share their perspectives with the younger generations who will uphold their legacies and the importance of respect and gratitude for years to come.
