Sailability was established in Australia by the Victorian Yachting Council in 1991. By 2000, Sailability Victoria had been incorporated as a not-for-porfit charitable organisation while countinuing to operate as a committee of Yachting Victoria. At that time Yachting Victoria provide a part-time Sailability Coordinator and a mobile unit of four Acccess (Hansa) Boats an Safety RHIB supporting just four Sailability Programs. Sailability Victoria amalgamated with Sailing for Everyone in 2003, including an additional four programs. From this we have now grown to 24 programs around the State offering sailing experiences to many sailors of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, enabling them to become involved in sailing and their local sailing club.

Congratulations to SV volunteer and Mornington YC member Brian Fraser on winning the Volunteer Award!

2026 Victorian Volunteer of the Year!

Congratulations Brian Fraser, 2026 Volunteer of the Year recipient.

Known as Mornington Yacht Club's "Mr Everywhere," Brian found his calling with the club's Sailability program within months of joining in 2017 and has run it ever since, delivering sessions three days a week, rain or shine, while also serving on the Sailability Committee. His contribution extends across nearly every corner of the club, from the Thursday Action Group tackling maintenance and repairs, to organising the safety boat roster, to being a fixture at every regatta doing whatever job needs doing, on the water, off it, or behind the BBQ. Despite not owning a boat himself, he's the first to help members with theirs. Brian regularly turns up simply to ask what else needs doing, all with a friendly face and genuine care for the club community.

2026 Victorian Lifetime Achievement Award!

Congratulations Sean Hogan, 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Sean has dedicated more than 55 years to sailing as a competitor, instructor, coach and administrator, competing since 1969 across dinghies, catamarans, keelboats and offshore racing, with over 40 years of offshore campaigns including multiple Rolex Sydney to Hobart races, plus titles as Victorian Champion and two-time Australian Junior Champion. Beyond his own racing, he's spent 30+ years mentoring hundreds of instructors and coaches, led Yachting Victoria and Sailability Victoria as President, and earned both the Yachting Victoria Services to Sailing Award and Australian Sailing President's Award, a legacy measured as much by the sailors he's mentored as the titles he's won.

The Hansa 303 - used widely across SV programs - is now available via a virtual sailing platform on your digital device. Could be a great addition for when participants are waiting or in between regular sailing sessions

How do you sail against the wind?

Try it in two minutes. ⛵

Steer. Adjust the sails. See what happens.

On your phone or computer. Nothing to install.

Our new website is live!
Sailability Victoria has a new home online: sailabilityvictoria.com.au
The site brings everything into one place. You can find your nearest program across the 18 clubs we support, sign up to volunteer, donate, or get in touch with us directly.
This is a big step for us. For the first time we have a proper platform to tell our story, promote our programs and point people to the right place. It gives every club and volunteer something solid to share, and it gives us a base to build on as we grow.
Have a look, and please share it with anyone who might like to get out on the water.

This week we celebrate each and every one of our hundreds of passionate and dedicated volunteers at the Sailability programs around the state.

Recently Tim, our club liaison visited Lysterfield Sailing Club and was delighted to present two volunteer long service recognition certificates to volunteers Mary Haigh and Stuart Corby who each have given over 20 years to the program.

He also visited Hastings Club and presented Kevin Baesnch with his framed award for three decades! Fantastic achievement.

Happy Volunteering week everybody!!
