Crohn's & Colitis Australia Empowering people to live fearlessly while we help search for a cure of Crohn’s and colitis.
(233)

Crohn’s & Colitis Australia (CCA) has been working with people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, healthcare professionals, governments and the public to minimise the impact that these conditions have on the community since 1985. For more than 36 years, CCA has been the only Australian organisation working with and for patients and their families, the doctors that treat them, and the policymakers who can bring about change. CCA provides high quality information, supports life-changing research and campaigns vigorously – for more knowledge, better services and more support for people affected by inflammatory bowel disease.

This Sunday, a crew of incredible runners, walkers and wheelers are taking on the 2026 Nike Melbourne Marathon - and raising funds for Crohn's & Colitis Australia while they do it 💜

A huge shoutout to our top fundraisers so far - Laura Ash, , Stephen Woods and Samantha Woods.

Every dollar raised goes towards supporting the more than 180,000 Australians living with IBD. Good luck to everyone taking on the course this Sunday - we're so proud of you all!

It's not the kind of tired a good night's sleep fixes. 😴

Fatigue is one of the most common and least talked about parts of living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. More than 75% of people experience it during a flare-up, and around half still do in remission.

It can come from a few places, and often it's a mix:

Inflammation
Medications
Nutrition, including low iron or B12
Poor sleep

If you're exhausted and can't work out why, it's worth raising with your IBD team. Fatigue is a real symptom, not something you just have to push through.

Where you live shouldn't decide the care you get. 📍

Two people with the same IBD diagnosis can have very different experiences of care depending on their postcode. In a new article, Hobart gastroenterologist Dr Alex Elford looks at why people with Crohn's and colitis in regional Australia face longer waits, more travel and fewer specialist services, and what needs to change.

It draws on CCA's State of the Nation research, which shows IBD most often starts between the ages of 15 and 29, right when people are finishing study, starting work and building their lives.

Living outside a major city? We'd love to hear what's worked for you, and what hasn't. Share in the comments. 💜

IBD can feel isolating. The appointments, the flares, the planning around bathrooms, the explaining (or not explaining) to people who don't quite get it.

You don't have to do it alone.

CCA members are part of a national community of people living with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, plus the families and carers who walk alongside them. People who understand without you needing to explain.

As a member, you'll:
💜 Read real stories from others living with IBD in our Inside Insight magazine
💜 Stay up to date with the latest news and research
💜 Add your voice to the push for better treatment and a cure
💜 Help build a stronger community for everyone living with IBD

"A significant step toward owning my disease and still feeling as though I belong was receiving my Can't Wait Card." (CCA member)

Membership is $50 a year, or $30 for concession holders. Some private health insurers offer a rebate on membership too, so it's worth checking with yours.

If you'd like to give the Live Fearless Challenge one last push, there's still time - with donation pages staying open until mid-October!!!
