Check out this month's key developments, achievements, and big stories shaping the social enterprise sector in Australia and beyond.

24/07/2025

The City of Melbourne has chosen the Queen Victoria Market as its second Circular Economy Precinct, being led by social enterprise STREAT !

Starting in July and continuing over the next few months, a number of exciting circular economy initiatives are taking place in the market!

The first initiative, launched last week, is the Reuse Pilot Zone– a three-month trial that aims to reduce single-use takeaway packaging in the cafe/food truck zone in upper E & F sheds. 20 participating food outlets are swapping single-use for reusable dishware, washed on site by the team from social enterprise B-Alternative.

Since its launch, over 7506 single use items have been prevented from landfill.

We're excited to be a part of Melbourne's growing commitment to circularity. Come to the upper E & F sheds at the Queen Victoria Market(opposite the Purpose Precinct shops) and be a part of the circular action!

Low Waste Remote Catering for 18 People 🥛 🌀♻️⬇️

During our Annual Regeneration Trip we tried to keep our catering waste to a minimum - and we were pretty happy to stick down to just one small bag of waste and 30 Litres of food scraps!

A big thanks to the many local growers and suppliers for making this possible:) Especially Community Foods Cairns and Berkelo Pasta

It is not always easy to find low waste alternatives, but with a little bit of extra planning and consideration it is possible - and it was so worthwhile!

Our team have just come back from a week of ocean debris removal in Far North Queensland on Thiithaarr Warra Country!

Despite the challenge of witnessing the pervasive impact of plastic on these remote beaches, we’ve all returned feeling incredibly inspired to continue working towards a regenerative future!

We can’t wait to share more from this annual regeneration trip over the coming weeks:)

A massive thank you to .tv for the equipment and logistic support! And to our friends at Eco Wipes for joining the team:)
