Global Tree Initiative Australia

Global Tree Initiative Australia The Australian chapter of the Global Tree Initiative, a world-wide environmental collective working to save our planet. The brainchild of Tenzin Osel Hita.

We support people to take actions to regenerate and rehabilitate our Australian environment. We are inspired by the vision of Tenzin Osel Hita for a green, breathing planet. We support people to take actions, no matter how big or small, to that end. Regeneration means to revive, restore and rehabilitate our earth. After the Black Summer bushfires, now more than ever, Australians are coming togethe

r to regenerate the millions of hectares of land devastated following drought, flood and fires, and create habitat for our wildlife and animals who have suffered so much. We acknowledge the First Nations peoples who have lived harmoniously and cared for Country for more than 60,000 years. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and future. From community gardens in our cities, to rehabilitating the scarred land and replanting native species in our regional areas, GTI Australia invites people everywhere to join our efforts. In the future we plan to offer opportunities for people to sponsor trees and understory plantings. The world wide Global Tree Initiative has offered more than one and a half million trees to the 14th Dalai Lama. In 2021 Greta Thunberg, climate activist, will receive offerings from the GTI from all over the globe. We are just starting out, so become part of our activist network and receive our newsletter and news of special events. Email ; [email protected]

✨The first stage of the Trees for Schools 2025 planting project at Daylesford Dharma School is now complete, with around 390 plants established. As summer approaches, our focus will be on watering and supporting the young plants to ensure the best possible outcome.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and in-kind-support, the GFM appeal has exceeded expectations. After expenses $750 remains, allowing us to consider more planting in Autumn 2026! So we will close the appeal at $2,916 as of 11th December.

Thank you again to all involved Workers, teachers, parents, students and donors. Without you this project wouldn't have come to life for the school community.

🌱 Daylesford Dharma School student’s begin their Trees for Schools journey! 🌱

What a beautiful day for the Trees for Schools 2025 project at Daylesford Dharma School! ☀️ On a gorgeous, sunny 6th of November, students stepped into an inspiring nature-based learning experience, spending time outdoors, learning - creating, and connecting with Country.

Around twelve enthusiastic students rolled up their sleeves and planted 50 new native plants across the school grounds. Even, Barry, our fur friend and regular planting team member, stole a few hearts along the way. 🐶💚

This day was about so much more than planting trees. Along the nature path, students confidently presented their learnings, showcasing curiosity, care, and a deepening connection to the environment around them.

The children and planting team also designed and built small water interception basins to capture runoff- an impressive demonstration of sustainable thinking and real world problem solving in action. These hands-on lessons showed just how powerful thoughtful design can be in supporting a healthy, thriving ecosystem.

👏 We are so proud of their teamwork, creativity, and commitment to caring for the land.

🌿 165 trees planted so far!
🌿 Next Planting Day: 19th November

We can’t wait to see what grows next, both in the earth, and in the hearts of these young environmental stewards. 💚

Growing a greener future: Trees for Schools 2025 at Daylesford Dharma School

🦋 In a world where children are increasingly distanced from the natural environment, Trees for Schools 2025 offers a hands-on opportunity to reconnect with nature while restoring local biodiversity and ecosystems.

🧬🔬🌿 This project brings science to life, giving students the chance to explore areas such as ecology, biodiversity, local habitats and the animals that depend on them.

🎯Thanks to our generous donors, we’ve already reached over 50% of our $3,500 GoFundMe target! The students at Daylesford Dharma School are deeply grateful to everyone who shares their passion for trees, animals and insects.

🌳 Imagine a schoolyard transformed into a thriving ecosystem, alive with the hum of insects, the flutter of butterflies and the rustle of native trees grasses. Among the species the students will plant is Kangaroo Grass (Themeda triandra), a resilient native plant that supports at least 13 species of butterflies and moths. It also provides essential habitat for insects, which in turn nourish lizards and, perhaps one day, even echidnas.

💙 This project is more than just planting trees – it’s about inspiring curiosity, fostering a love for science and empowering children to make a positive impact on their environment. With your support, we can help students grow their understanding of the natural world and create a lasting legacy for local ecosystems.

🌱 Trees for Schools 2025 - Daylesford Dharma School Planting Project Update! 🌳

We’re thrilled to share some exciting progress on the Trees for Schools 2025 project! 🎉 Thanks to everyone’s incredible support, our GoFundMe appeal has just passed $1,500, bringing us closer to our final goal. Your generosity is making this dream a reality -thank you! 💚

Last week, we visited the site to measure up the 20m x 20m works area and plan how the planting beds will coordinate with the proposed bike path. To prepare, we cleared the rough grass and completed a preliminary set-out. Earlier this week, excavation work officially begin! The area will be cleared of grass and weeds, paving the way for the students to start measuring and laying out the planting beds and bike path.

It’s such an exciting time for the school, and the weather has been absolutely perfect to kick off this transformative project. 🌞

Let’s continue to rejoice in everyone’s efforts to date - together, we’re creating a greener, more sustainable future. Stay tuned for more updates as the project unfolds!

The iconic Eucalyptus caesia is flowering now across bushland in WA. Find it in the bush around you by looking for an attractive, upright tree with pendulous branches and pink or red flowers. It also has attractive brown bark which peels to reveal a white trunk underneath.
Works well as a feature tree in a garden bed and prefers areas with a dry Summer. Will require pruning as branches become brittle with age.

There are two recognised sub species: magna and caesia. Magna is larger, reaching heights up to 15m with larger leaves, buds and fruits.
