You started with one name and one date. Then you found an old record that didn't match what you thought you knew, and now you're three tabs deep into a database you'd never heard of last week.
That's family history for you. Nobody does it alone, and you shouldn't have to.
Here's what actually helps: a community of people who are down the same rabbit holes, workshops that teach you how to read the records instead of just find them, and staff who know collections and archives well enough to point you to the right one.
There's also the buildings your family lived in. A workers' cottage in Fitzroy tells you something different about a family than a homestead in Gippsland, and PMI Library collection of more than 1,000 books on historic buildings plus our local histories collections can fill in that picture, not just names and dates. We run Family History Workshops through the year covering topics like military records and how to publish your research once you've done the hard part. Check the events calendar for what's coming up.
