Tara-Rose Butterworth-Gonebale is not only a beloved member of the Ngwala family, but also a talented artist! To celebrate National NAIDOC this year, Tara-Rose created this incredible snake design for our annual jumper, which you might have seen slithering through the crowds of Naarm's NAIDOC March.

“This artwork tells the story of strength, survival and spirit - honouring 50 years of Deadly, and the powerful legacy of Ngwala as it continues to walk alongside community," stated Tara-Rose.

Not only is she talented, but award winning too - receivingthe West NAIDOC Innovation Award (alongside her business partner Jake Butterworth) for her arts business Marli Marli Creative this year!

We're so proud of our incredibly talented Nikola McHamilton for walking away with the Western NAIDOC Community Worker Award at this years NAIDOC Awards! This award acknowledges a community worker whose dedication, resilience, and service continue to create lasting impact and reflect the Deadly strength of community leadership. That truly does sum up this incredibly passionate Palawa woman who goes above and beyond to show up for our community.

"I show up with zero judgement and a whole lot of lateral love every day. I do what I do because love seeing my mob thriving and I encourage our young ones to stand staunch and strong," Nikola says. "I hope I'm able to give our young mob hope that no matter what we go through we're in control of how we show up for ourselves and who we become! I wouldn’t be able to give so much to my community without the support of my loving wife Tegan McHamilton and our families and friends, so a huge thank you to you all."

Today we celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

This year's theme, Living Our Truth, recognises the importance of truth-telling, sharing knowledge across generations, and honouring the stories, voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities.

We celebrate the strength, pride and future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and the vital role of culture, community, and connection in helping young people thrive. Today, we acknowledge the next generation of leaders and encourage everyone to listen to, value, and support their voices.
