As the Duty Officer coordinating our local SES response over the long weekend, I wanted to take a moment to publicly thank the incredible volunteers who stepped up to help our community after the recent storms.

While most in our communities were spending time with family and enjoying the long weekend, our volunteers were out answering call-outs, making damaged properties safe, and lending a helping hand to neighbours who needed it most.

One of the things I love most about living in a small community is seeing people come together when times are tough. When the weather turned wild and woolly, our volunteers didn't hesitate. They answered the phone, put on the orange overalls, and got to work helping others.

I am so grateful for every member of our local SES team. Your willingness to give up your own time to support friends, neighbours and complete strangers is something our community should be incredibly proud of.

To those volunteers that made themselves available, put their hands up, but didn't get a run this time, I appreciate you also.

Thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and the care you show every time you respond. It is a privilege to coordinate such a committed and selfless group of people.

Our towns are a better place because of volunteers like you.

With seriously nasty weather coming this weekend, now is the time to be making sure your property is storm ready. The Bureau of Meteorology is saying this storm is going to be the strongest system we've seen in some time, in terms of wind. So let's not give our trampolines and outdoor furniture any ideas about getting airborne. Tie them down early!

🚨👶 Land Search Training: Mission… Pacified? 👶🚨

Last night our amazing SES volunteers headed out for a land search training exercise to locate a “missing child” who was reportedly using a dummy. Spirits were high, torches were charged, and search patterns were textbook perfect.

Clue located!
Then another…
…aaaand another.

Three dummies. Zero children. 🤔

At this point we’re not sure if we were tracking one very indecisive toddler or uncovering evidence of an underground dummy-smuggling ring. Either way, the team did exactly what they train to do — methodical searches, clear communication, and sharp eyes on the ground (clearly VERY sharp 👀).

Training exercises like this keep our crews ready for the real thing — even when the only casualties are a few abandoned dummies and our serious expressions.

Huge shoutout to our dedicated volunteers who give up their time to make sure when someone truly needs help, we’re ready to respond — pacifier or not. 💛
