While World Homeless Day was acknowledged on 10 October, the Sunny Coast Sleeper provided 41 safe sleeps for people sleeping rough, 23 in Maroochydore and 18 in Nambour.

That means people had somewhere safe to rest. Thank you to our volunteers, funders and supporters who make this possible. Your contribution makes a real difference to the people accessing the Sleeper.

But our guests deserve more than returning to the bus each week. They need a place to call home.

World Homeless Day needs to bring more than acknowledgement. We need commitments we can follow up on, and results we can see and that needs to be our focus every day of the year.

Thinking about volunteering? Come along to the Chances House volunteer recruitment session this Wednesday, 14 October.

The Night Bus currently operates every Friday. More volunteers would help us work towards opening on additional nights, giving more people a safe place to sleep.

Meet the team and find out about the roles and shifts available.

Could this be your organisation's next community project?

With Chances House operating the Night Bus every Friday, Safe Sleep Mackay is Seeking community organisations interested in operating our 2 remaining busses, SSM1 and SSM3. We'd particularly welcome a dedicated service for women and a service in Sarina, and we are open to other ideas that provide safe overnight accomodation for people in need.
Interested in exploring the possibilities? Message Safe Sleep Mackay or email us [email protected] to start a conversation.

💜Community Spirit Abounds💜

Thank you to Mackay Community Foundation for a fantastic morning honouring their 2026 grant program recipients🙏
The foundation gives so much back to our community every year and this year nearly $250k has been shared between 16 organisations👏
Safe Sleep Mackay received $11,568 towards our bus fit out. We were very proud to be able to share with those present the impact that the Mackay Community Foundation, as one of our platinum donors, has made to Safe Sleep Mackay’s goal of providing safe sleeps for our community💜
Having Michell and Wayne from AMD Automotive Services Pty Ltd make the presentation made it even more special as they been instrumental in helping us get our buses operational💜
