The Bayside Glen Eira Kingston Local Learning and Employment Network (BGK LLEN) is part of a network of 31 Victorian LLENs funded by the Victorian State government to support continued strong pathways from school to further education and work for local young people. The funding supports the development of networks and partnerships to improve the participation, engagement, attainment and transition outcomes of young people. Established in 2002, the pivotal role of the BGK LLEN is to act as a regional strategic and facilitation body by undertaking research, building relationships with local schools, businesses and industry groups and listening to the needs of our stakeholders. Our local and regional networks and partnerships enable us to support schools to engage, both geographically and by industry, with business and industry stakeholders. The BGK LLEN facilitates government contracts (currently DET’s LLEN contract and DHHS’ Engage contract) as well as fee for service project management, research, facilitation and professional learning.

BGKLLEN was pleased to attend the BPA Koori Careers & Pathways Expo at Frankston Tech School, sharing our VIC VICE 360° virtual work experience goggles and introducing students to immersive career experiences.
We were honoured to be welcomed to Bunurong Country through a traditional smoke ceremony, and to learn from Uncle Shane about the significance of three native plants used: Manna Gum, representing ancestors and older generations including strong women; Silver Wattle, symbolising community strength and resilience; and Cherry Ballart, representing babies, children and future generations.
Thank you to everyone who made us feel welcome and we hope we were able to give back some knowledge about future pathways to the attendees.

We’d like to acknowledge HeadStart as a valued sponsor of the BGKLLEN Applied Learning Awards.

HeadStart plays a vital role in supporting students in Years 10–12 to gain real-world skills through school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs). These opportunities provide paid, on-the-job training that contributes to the VCE, VCE Vocational Major or VPC, while also leading to a qualification.

With programs available in every Victorian government school, HeadStart is helping young people build the skills, confidence, and experience that employers in growth industries need.

Guess who is sponsoring our awards night?

Since its establishment in 2001, Community Bank Highett has significantly impacted the local community by contributing over $4.2 million through various sponsorships, grant projects, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of the Highett and Bayside communities. This financial support has been crucial in funding local sports teams, community events, educational programs, mental health initiatives, music and arts projects, and various social efforts that promote togetherness and improvement.

The success of Community Bank Highett is closely tied to the customers who choose to bank at the Highett branch. This community-driven model allows the branch to allocate funds to important initiatives and events, such as the 2026 BGKLLEN Applied Learning Awards.

The curtain is opening on a very special event — the BGKLLEN Applied Learning Awards (BALA), taking place on Monday, 19 October, 2026.

The BALAs celebrate students across Bayside, Glen Eira and Kingston who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their applied learning pathways — VET, VCE Vocational Major or Victorian Pathways Certificate.

Our VET Cluster awards bring together Government, Independent, Catholic and Specialist schools in our region to recognise the strength of vocational education and the inspiring achievements of young people.

The event will be hosted in St Leonard’s College’s state-of-the-art Leonardian Centre.

We look forward to celebrating with our community on this important night. Major Sponsor, Community Bank Highett Sponsor, Headstart

25,000 Students and Counting
Since launching in 2024, VIC VICE has reached an incredible milestone of 25,000 student participants across Victoria.
For BGKLLEN, it’s great to see a program creating opportunities for young people to explore careers, connect with industry and discover pathways they may not otherwise have had access to.
Through our work with schools, industry and LLEN partners, BGKLLEN is proud to contribute to helping students broaden their horizons and make more informed decisions about their futures.
A big thank you to everyone who has helped make this milestone possible. We look forward to continuing to connect more young people with meaningful career experiences.
