𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡
Members of the Rotary Club of Ivanhoe recently joined Rotary’s “Lift the Lid” Walk for Mental Health around Coburg Lake. Congratulations to the Rotary Clubs of Moreland, Coburg and Pascoe Vale, who together raised around $13,000 for Australian Rotary Health’s mental health research!

This local walk was one of many held by Rotary clubs across Australia.

𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐨 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐞
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that prior to the introduction of the polio vaccine in the 1950's, the poliovirus killed or paralysed more than half a million people every year, globally. In the early 1980's, an estimated 300,000 - 400,000 people still suffered from paralytic polio each year.

Recognising the problem, in 1985, Rotary launched its PolioPlus program and has spearheaded efforts to eradicate polio globally, in conjunction with the WHO, UNICEF, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Since then, Rotary has contributed more than U.S.$2.9 billion towards polio eradication and global polio cases have dropped by more than 99.9%. Today, wild poliovirus remains endemic in only two countries in the world: Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Rotary continues its efforts to eradicate poliovirus and last week the Rotary Club of Ivanhoe held an End Polio fundraiser outside the Miles Real Estate offices in Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe. This was part of an initiative by Rotary Clubs in our local district to raise awareness about polio and to attract further funds towards ending polio.

What a fun night at our recent Blue Illusion Fundraiser for the Partners in Education – Siem Reap project! The project supports disadvantaged students and schools in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.

Our models Robyn, Alison and Lisa showed off the latest Blue Illusion fashions to more than 30 Rotarians and friends.

A big thank you to Blue Illusion Ivanhoe, Store Manager Elise and her team, who generously donated a percentage of the day's sales from noon onward.

Recently, the Rotary Club of Ivanhoe had the great pleasure of hosting Michelle Jobson and Rita Bottomley, co-founders of Go Girls, at one of our weekly breakfast meetings. With backgrounds in psychology and facilitation, Michelle and Rita, formed Go Girls in 2008 with the aim of empowering women. Since then, Go Girls, an independent charitable foundation, has helped thousands of women from all around Australia, gain employment, take on leadership roles and grow both personally and professionally.

Thank you Michelle and Rita for the inspirational work that you do in empowering women in the community!

𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝

Local Ivanhoe clothing store Blue Illusion is a wonderful example of a business giving back to the community. Part of a family owned network of 110 stores in Australia and New Zealand, the manager of Blue Illusion Ivanhoe, Elise, was a recent guest speaker at a Rotary Club of Ivanhoe breakfast meeting and reported how Blue Illusion donated over $80,000 in 2025 to causes such as The Smith Family, World Vision, and an orphanage in Bali.

Thank you Elise and Blue Illusion for supporting the community in this way!

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Planning is well underway for the second District 9790 ‘Partners in Education’ trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, scheduled for January 17 to 28, 2027.

Rotarians and friends from across District 9790 — including the Rotary Clubs of Ivanhoe, Rutherglen, Pascoe Vale and Eltham — will volunteer at four schools serving disadvantaged children. Volunteers will teach English, basic IT skills and hygiene, and take on hands-on tasks like painting classrooms.

Work has begun at Porbonteachy School on a toilet refurbishment project under the supervision of our partners at the Cambodian Student Rural Trust and Rotaract Club of Siem Reap.

Work is starting any day at Peak Sneang School. The NGO Cambodia Clean Water and Toilet is enclosing the school kitchen to stop animals from foraging and will also install six whiteboards to improve classrooms for teaching and learning.

In addition, a Rotary District 9790 Grant will purchase 50 bikes for disadvantaged children attending the Roots Cambodia School.

We are still fundraising for the 48 Couleurs School, which is in urgent need of a toilet block, septic tank upgrade, water filtration system and water tank. We also plan to fund a Day for Girls event.

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝

The Rotary Club of Ivanhoe recently received a generous grant of $10,000 from the Community Bank East Ivanhoe to help clients of the Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (RIMERN). RIMERN provides furniture, appliances and homewares to welfare agency clients who are being placed into housing after having experienced homelessness due to domestic violence, incarceration, refugee displacement or other crises. The $10,000 has been used by the Rotary Club of Ivanhoe to purchase whitegoods such as fridges, freezers and washing machines for RIMERN clients which will make a very significant difference to their lives. Thank you, Community Bank East Ivanhoe!
