Ever needed to know what to say to someone facing su***de? What is Mental Health First Aid?

Rotary Eynesbury has a special Guest Speaker this week addressing a growing major issue in all communities around Australia.

Guest Speaker Dr David Horgan is our Guest Speaker at our meeting on Thursday commencing 6.30 for 7.00pm at Ms. Peacocks Restaurant, Eynesbury. Entry is free but bookings essential. Please call or text Ross on 0411 228 311.

Dr David Horgan, Psychiatrist; Australian Su***de Prevention Foundation (now retired) was recently a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, with high ratings for his lectures to medical students, to other psychiatrists, and to Healthed audiences.

He was known as a “last resort” psychiatrist treating depression and high su***de risk. He remains heavily involved in a charity which he founded, the Australian Su***de Prevention Foundation.

He initiated the award-winning App “Prevent A Su***de: What to Say” to empower family, friends and colleagues when a person mentions wishing to be dead. He is keen to teach highly practical clinical tips in su***de prevention.

David’s Presentation is designed for friends, family and colleagues to provide support.

However, a smart woman recently provided the following feedback: ‘that she made her own “library” of resonating phrases so that when the bleak times came back, she could use this library as a personally directed support, which she found very useful’.

Following the success of our Program's Trial last Term the School has asked we increase our involvement and creat 3 more sessions for their students to participate in. Do you have a spare 30-45 minutes on any of the days we offer Reading to the Eynesbury Primary School Students - Moday through Wednesday 10.00am to 10.30am?

Our Volunteer Readers' Program is looking for extra shifts to cover some of the following days, Mondays, Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays during school terms. Call or text Ross on 0411 228 311 for more details.

Would you like to assist us with our new Volunteer Reading Program in conjunction with Eynesbury Primary School? One, two or three mornings during school terms for 30 minutes is all that's required along with your desire to assist students with their reading. Regular or casual, on call roles can be accommodated.
