Himilo Himilo Community Connect is a community inclusion and support program, funded by the State Government we are best able to empower our community.

Established in early 2016, Himilo Community Connect was formed following a rigorous co-design process that involved 123 members of the Somali community as well as State and Local Government representatives, community organisations and other key stakeholders. The co-design approach ensured that the local community was able to take leadership in identifying both their support needs and the services

that would respond to these.

‘Himilo’ meaning positive aspirations in the Somali language, does as it says and aims to represent ‘Positive aspirations to Connect Communities.’ The project works in partnership with local and state organisations to best serve the West Heidelberg Somali Australian community. Through initiatives like the Youth Leadership Program, Homework Club, Playgroup, Women’s Support Group, Youth Voice Group etc. For further information on how you can be involved, contact us on (03) 8582 9510 or at [email protected]

Thank you Kate Thwaites MP for your o going support. With your support we have been able to achieve better employment and education outcomes for our community members. We look forward to working with you to achieve better social and economic outcomes for our participants.

So pleased to be back with the team at Himilo Community Connect to share the good news – a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will provide $50,000 for Himilo to run the Bridges Project.

Led by young people, the project will involve inclusive sports, interfaith learning, and cultural celebration activities that bring youth and families together.

Himilo does incredible work every day for the 3081 Somali community and I can’t wait to come back and hear about the project’s success.
