Art is all about trusting the process. 🌿

In our Art Journaling session on Monday (31.8.26), we used watercolour shapes as our jumping-off point. One page was dedicated to mindful, structured Zentangle patterns over geometric blocks.
On the facing page, we went total free-form—turning random paint blobs into charming little characters.
It's amazing what a splash of color and a black pen can do! Check out some of the gorgeous pages created in the community studio this week. ✨

Pure magic in today’s Art Journaling class! 🎨✨
There’s something so liberating about letting go of control, and today was all about embracing the beautiful mess. We kicked things off by crafting vibrant, unpredictable watercolor backgrounds using plastic sheets—the way the pigments swirl and blend on their own never gets old.
Once our pages were dry, the real story-building began. We layered in vintage sheet music, strips of playful washi tape, and hunted through magazines for "found words" that brought us instant joy. Watching everyone assemble their own unique mosaic of texture and meaning was pure inspiration.
Art isn't about making a masterpiece every time; it's about making space for delight. ✂️🎶

Art Journaling – Week 4 ✨
17.8.26

Today’s class took us deeper into the creative process as we continued building on the collage backgrounds we started last week. 🎨

We added another layer of texture, pattern and personality using stencils, stamps and mark-making, creating little details and visual surprises across the page. Each layer added more depth and interest, while still allowing glimpses of the collage underneath to peek through.

For the focal point, we introduced a magazine silhouette image, which worked beautifully against our busy, colourful backgrounds. The strong, simple shape created a wonderful contrast and gave the eye somewhere to rest amongst all those delicious layers and marks.

It was all about building, experimenting and trusting the process — one mark, one layer and one happy accident at a time. ✨

Another fun and inspiring week of art journaling, with each page becoming a little more uniquely ours. 💕🎨

Collage Backgrounds

This morning we used the painty papers created last week to make a collage background in our journals.

We started by tearing up the painty pages and sticking them down. The next layer gesso or white acrylic paint, applied with a cardboard scraper to bring all the scraps together and knock back the darker tones.

Applying different thicknesses of this layer allowed some areas to have a translucent look, while the thicker areas created some great contrast with the opaque white.

The afternoon shifted to another collage activity: making “scrappy snippets.” We used packing tape and paper scraps to create these strips, then turned them into journal covers and journal pockets for storing ephemera.

Art Journaling – Week 2: Creating Collage Fodder

This week was all about creating unique collage fodder for future art journaling projects.

We explored a wide range of materials and techniques, experimenting with everything from acrylics and watercolours to tissue paper, sheet music, bottle tops, and even candles. The focus wasn't on creating a finished piece—it was about exploring, playing, taking creative risks, and letting go of expectations.

By the end of the session, everyone had built a wonderful collection of handmade papers, textures, and embellishments ready to bring future journal pages to life. It was a joyful afternoon of creativity, curiosity, and discovering that inspiration can be found in the most unexpected materials.
