From 1 July 2026 super will be paid at the same time as wages for all workers, through the introduction of Payday Super. This is good news for Australian workers, helping retirement savings grow sooner, while reducing the risk of unpaid or delayed super payments.

Today we remember those tragically killed in workplaces across Australia. Our thoughts go out to their family, friends, and workmates for their loss, as we continue our fight for the living.

Nothing is more important to the AWU than ensuring you safely come home at the end of your shift, day in and day out. No one should ever die at work, and we will continue to fight for justice for those who have lost their lives.

Governments and industry must do more to protect workers, and the AWU promises to keep fighting for stronger workplace standards.

On Saturday night, the AWU and the Retail Supply Chain Alliance hosted a community forum for PALM workers in and around Northern NSW, helping connect PALM workers and other farm workers in the region with important information about their rights, entitlements and support available to them.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and to the organisations who helped make this event possible, including AustralianSuper, Visa Assist, SDA NSW & ACT, TWU NSW, Coles and The NSW Council for Pacific Communities.

From 1 July, super contributions will be paid at the same time as wages.

That means more regular payments, so your super can start working for you sooner.

Our partner CBUS is helping members understand what this change means and how to prepare.

On this day 94 years ago, 750,000 Sydneysiders gathered as the Harbour Bridge was officially opened!

The AWU is proud to be the union that built the bridge - but proud FIA members also founded 10,500 tonnes of steel from the BHP Steelworks in Newcastle. The bridge didn't just connect two halves of a growing city; it also helped build Australia's steel industry in its early years.

You can read more about how AWU members built the Sydney Harbour Bridge and what it meant for Australia's steel industry here: https://loom.ly/C1o3qTs

Proud to celebrate the AWU women who make our union stronger everyday!

Happy International Women's Day to the incredible women of the AWU. Thank you to all the AWU members, delegates, HSRs, staff, and officials who fight for women's rights at work!

The first Australian International Working Women's Day took place in Sydney in 1928, with annual marches commencing in Melbourne and Sydney from 1931. Their demands were for equal pay for equal work, paid leave and an eight-hour working day.

Today, we continue the battle to push forward the interests of working women, fighting for equal pay, safer workplaces, and the fair and respectful treatment of our members.
