Flight Attendants' Association of Australia - FAAA Australia’s largest Flight Attendant union

Yesterday, we took this to Parliament.

FAAA Federal Secretary Teri O’Toole appeared at a NSW enquiry into work health and safety – putting a spotlight on what it really means to work at 30,000 feet.

Cabin crew are not “just service.”
They are:
• safety professionals
• first responders
• managing complex physical, environmental and mental risks every single flight
And the truth is – the system hasn’t kept up.

We need:
✅ stronger HSR training
✅ better legislation
✅ more inspectors and real oversight
✅ a Code of Practice that reflects the reality of working in the air

Because this isn’t a normal workplace. And safety at 30,000 feet can’t be treated like it is.

It’s time the laws caught up with the job. ✊✈️

A union gives you protection, support, and real bargaining power at work. Without it, you’re on your own. With it, you’re backed by thousands.

Every improvement in our industry – pay, safety, conditions – has come from workers standing together.
It doesn’t happen by chance.
It happens when we have a collective voice that can’t be ignored.

✊ Join the FAAA today and be part of something stronger. Because real change takes all of us.

Crew shouldn’t have to question the air they breathe.

On the 2nd of June, FAAA Federal Secretary Teri O’Toole took that message to the global stage at the ITF webinar on cabin air quality – making it clear: fume events are a real and ongoing safety issue.

Behind every report is a crew member who felt unwell.
Who kept working through it.
Who just wanted to get home safely.

That’s not acceptable.
This isn’t just an aviation issue.
It’s a workers’ rights issue.

The FAAA will keep pushing for safer cabins, stronger reporting protections, and real accountability – because crew deserve better.

Always.

💬 If you’ve experienced a fume event, you’re not alone. Your union stands with you.

Delegate Spotlight: Meet Nesh 👏

We asked what it means to represent cabin crew:
“It’s so important to be part of this movement because the only way we improve your conditions, the way we improve the industry as a whole, is to be part of a greater thing. And the FAAA is part of that greater movement.”

For Nesh, it’s about collective power and building something bigger for every crew member.

✊ Stronger together.

🚨 Toxic air isn’t “rare” – it’s a real workplace safety issue.

At today’s ITF Toxic Air in the Cabin webinar, professionals, union reps and crew shared the impact of fume events – when engine or hydraulic fluids contaminate cabin air.

Symptoms reported? Headaches. Dizziness. In some cases – incapacitation.

This isn’t just discomfort. It’s an occupational health risk – and action is overdue.

✊ What we’re demanding:

From airlines:
• Recognise exposure as an occupational injury
• Train crew to identify, respond to & report fume events

From regulators:
• Mandatory annual training
• Ban low/no-odour oils until sensors are installed
• Require bleed air filters & safer aircraft design

From manufacturers:
• Fix known design issues (including A320 fleet)
• Strengthen maintenance procedures
• Invest in and promote safer engine oils

Crew deserve safe air at work – no exceptions.

The Fair Work Commission has handed down a 4.75% increase to modern award wages, including the Aircraft Cabin Crew Award, effective from 1 July 2026.

But here’s what matters:
👉 Some members on enterprise bargaining agreements containing wages on or close to the Award may receive an increase.

Either way, this lifts minimum pay – but it doesn’t go far enough. Cabin crew work remains undervalued. Importantly, the Commission has recognised the FAAA’s case as a major one to focus on over the next year.

We’re continuing to fight for an Award that truly reflects the skills, responsibility, realities and value of our work. ✈️✊

In an emergency situation, Cabin Crew are who we turn to. They perform CPR. They evacuate aircrafts. They save lives. They keep us safe.
