The best-kept secret about parkrun is that it’s not about running - it’s about bringing people together in public parks and open spaces to have some fun in a friendly, social and supportive environment. You can walk or run the 5k course (pushing a pram or with one dog on a short lead if you want to!), lend a helping hand as a volunteer in a wide range of super-easy roles, or simply spectate and so

cialise on the sidelines. There are no winners at parkrun and nobody comes last. Regular participation is rewarded rather than performance, with free ‘parkrun milestone shirts’ awarded to people to recognise their achievements in coming along. parkrun is whatever you want it to be, whenever you want to take part. Another fantastic morning at Varsity Lakes parkrun yesterday. The rain cleared up just in time, leaving a beautiful day for the 238 walkers, joggers and runners - including 11 people making their parkrun debut - to complete their laps around the lake.

A massive thank you to our team of 19 amazing volunteers; we truly couldn't do this without you.

We also want to give a special shout-out to a couple of incredible, unofficial milestones achieved yesterday. Varsity Lakes regular Michael Balch volunteered for his 600th time (with over 500 of those right here at our event), and Darrel Nelson completed his 600th parkrun finish. Congratulations to you both, and to everyone else who reached a milestone this weekend.

Between our enthusiastic first-timers, our wonderful regulars, and celebrating Gary Seager’s 500th milestone, the energy at Varsity Lakes today was electric. Fantastic effort, everyone. Special thanks to Carol for baking the delicious treat to celebrate Gary's incredible achievement.

Today’s event was powered by the smiles and hard work of our wonderful volunteer team. Thank you all very much!

Double the celebrations tomorrow at Varsity Lakes parkrun!

Not only is it Queensland Day, we are also celebrating the incredible Gary Seager as he becomes the newest member of the 500 Club.

To make it even more impressive, Gary also has 150 volunteer credits to his name, giving him a volunteer ratio of over 30%. What an outstanding contribution to our community.

Come on down tomorrow to celebrate Gary, wear blue (or Qld maroon), enjoy Queensland Day, and kick off another amazing parkrun. See you at the start line!

Celebrate Queensland Day With Us.

This Saturday is Queensland Day. Since separating from New South Wales in 1859, our incredible state has now been around for 167 years.

We think that is the perfect excuse to celebrate everything that makes the Sunshine State the best place to walk, jog, run or volunteer.

To mark the occasion, we want to turn our beautiful lakeside course into a sea of maroon. Whether it is your favourite footy jersey, a milestone shirt that happens to be (close to) the right shade, a cap or maroon socks, dust it off and wear it proudly on Saturday.
