🚨 Lazarus needs your help.

We pride ourselves on staying open 365 days a year.
But right now we're struggling to keep our doors open on weekends.

Without enough volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays, some of our most vulnerable guests miss out on a warm meal, a fresh shower, clean clothes and friendly conversation.

If you have any hours to spare on a weekend, we'd love to hear from you. No experience needed.

πŸ… If anyone deserves a medal, it's this man.

Michael Nolan has been with Lazarus from day one as part of the original team that opened the centre in 2015.

Now, he's been awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his services to the community. He recently stopped by the centre, so we had to get a photo with the new medal!

Congratulations, Michael. Well deserved.

Great day at the Give Where You Live Foundation Conversations That Matter last week.

Nedd Brockman (the legend who ran across Australia in 47 days and has raised $millions for homelessness) showed everyone what next-level motivation looks like.

+ speakers Amy Hunter (The Outpost Inc.), Josephine Taylor (Meli) and Jessie Moore left the room inspired to help fight the homelessness crisis in Geelong.

Every act to end homelessness counts!

πŸ‘“ A huge thank you to the OPSM team for coming in to give our guests free eye tests.
They were even generous enough to donate some pairs of glasses for those who need them.

Special shoutout to Chelsea, one of our past directors at Lazarus! It was lovely to have her back through our doors.

Thank you, OPSM! πŸ’š

🚨 Lazarus Reno Update!

Accessibility is a priority here at Lazarus. We aim to make the upgrade centre somewhere that welcomes any and all people who need a few hours of comfort and nourishment.

So as part of our renovations, we've been building a new accessibility ramp! Because no one should face a barrier just getting to the front door.

Here are a couple of shots of the ramp in progress!

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up around 4% of Australia's population.
Yet they represent more than 20% of people experiencing homelessness.

This National Reconciliation Week, the theme is All In.
It's a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

At Lazarus, we're committed to creating a safe haven where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are experiencing homelessness or isolation can access the support they need.

Reconciliation is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people.
It takes all of us.

We're all in. πŸ’š

πŸ“° You might have spotted us on the front page of the Geelong Advertiser last week!

The article says it all. Demand at Lazarus has more than doubled in the past 18 months, and this winter will be our busiest yet.

Right now we're urgently needing:
πŸ›οΈ Sleeping bags and blankets
β›Ί Tents
πŸ§₯ Warm jackets and men's clothing
🧦 Jocks and new socks
πŸ₯« Non-perishable food (you can donate this to our door or in the Lazarus trolley at your local Woolies)

Financial donations are also incredibly helpful. They allow us to respond quickly to urgent needs as they come up.

πŸ’š This National Volunteer Week (18 – 24 May), we want to say a massive thank you to our incredible volunteers.

Our team of Lazarus Heroes show what a little kindness and generosity can do for the community.

Week in, week out, they're here cooking meals, doing laundry, and making Lazarus a warm and welcoming place for those who need it.

Thank you to all volunteers who donate their time to making the world a better place.
