💗🐾💗 ‘PAWS 4 AN HOUR’ - SWEET PEA ANIMAL RESCUE 💗🐾💗

🌧️☀️🌦️ Rain or shine, we’ll be there every Thursday from 10:30–11:30 am showcasing our beautiful rescue animals! This weekly opportunity to visit us can help you to decide if you’re ready to welcome a rescue dog or cat into your home, and which one may suit you. 🤗🥰

You may also have some questions about our adoption process, or perhaps you’re interested in joining our fantastic team of volunteers. It’s also a great way to learn more about responsible pet ownership. 👏🏻🥇💖

✨🐾🐶 All primped and prepped for your arrival will be our super sweet Chup, ‘raring to go’ Rory, handsome Tucker, our little gem Tiffany and our golden girl, Shelly. 💛💛

📣🥰🐾 AND TWO NEW PUPPIES!! Please welcome Bluey and Bingo! 💙💙

✨🐾😻 Our kitties are all young, purry and keen to meet you too, especially if you have a warm lap to curl up on. How can you resist Mochi, Onyx, Yuzu, Rocket Man??? ❤️❤️

✅💉 All of our rescue animals are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and treated with flea/tick prevention before they’re ready to leave for their loving forever homes.

🩶🐾💙 WELCOME BLUEY & BINGO! 💙🐾🩶

Please join us in welcoming 🩶Bluey and Bingo🖤, two utterly adorable little brothers who arrived at Sweet Pea about 10 days ago under Duty of Care from Taree Pound.

These precious boys were found abandoned in bushland - and yes, we’re still shocked and heartbroken by the inhumanity and irresponsibility that leads to moments like this. But today, we’re focusing on the good:
✨ They are safe
✨ They are loved
✨ And their future is already looking so much brighter

At around 8 weeks old, Bluey and Bingo are sweet, snuggly, curious little pups who are quickly learning that humans CAN be gentle, kind, and trustworthy.

They’ll be available for adoption soon, so please keep an eye on:

💖🌟💛 RILEY HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 💛🌟💖
Our hearts are absolutely bursting today - because our gorgeous girl Riley found the most incredible forever family! 🐾✨

Back in February, Riley arrived in our care from Taree Pound. She was in season, confused, and had been abandoned alongside her equally beautiful brother, Rory. Even then, it was impossible to miss how special these two were - stunning on the outside, and even more beautiful on the inside. 💕

Fast forward to April… and Riley’s whole world changed.
She found the most wonderful, loving family, and they have welcomed her into their lives with open arms, open hearts, and the kind of devotion we dream of for every rescue dog. 🏡💛

Riley is now living a life filled with inclusion, adventure, love, and respect - the life every dog deserves! Seeing her so deeply cherished is everything we hoped for and more. ❤️🐶

To Shelli and family - our gratitude is endless. Thank you for choosing to adopt. Thank you for choosing Riley. And thank you for giving her a life where she is valued, understood, and adored. This is what rescue is all about. 🌈🐶

NAME: KATE

ROLE AT S.P.A.R.:
Cat shifts, Cat Vollie training, Management Committee, Fundraising Committee (Bunnings BBQ’S, Trivia Night, etc)

WHAT IS YOUR DAY JOB/WORK EXPERIENCE?
I work part time as a psychologist. I’ve changed careers a few times over the years, but my other main job was as a chef, which I qualified for when I left school. I also owned a cafe/deli in Surry Hills (Sydney) for 9 years.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING AT S.P.A.R.?
A few years….4?

WHY DID YOU WANT TO JOIN THE S.P.A.R. TEAM?
A client planted the seed a few years back, then when I was on a career break, I started. It was partly to satiate my need for more cats, but also because I love that S.P.A.R. gives unwanted/abandoned animals a voice and a life.

WHAT DO YOU MOST LIKE ABOUT IT, AND WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
It’s a lovely team to work with (and the humans, too!). A constant variety of animals with different personalities and stories. It’s also an opportunity to use other skills - training, fundraising, etc.
I highly recommend volunteering at S.P.A.R.!

WHO’S YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE RESCUE AND WHY?
We have 7 kittens at the moment who are all adorable. Captain Fantastic and Bento are pretty cute, but I have a soft spot for the adult/senior cats we usually have, too.

WHAT PETS DO YOU HAVE?
Cleo, my 8 1/2 year old ragdoll (who I got as a kitten, long before I knew about S.P.A.R.). Christian is my 5 year old ragdoll/Himalayan X flame point who I rehomed/rescued from a DV/chaotic situation 2 years ago.

IF YOU COULD WISH FOR ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
That every cat and dog would have a loving home (and, in my opinion, every home have a cat or dog to love! ❤️).

Shelly – always smiling, beautiful, and ready for cuddles and walkies. She knows how to age gracefully and has plenty of love to give. ☀️🧡

Rory – smart, handsome, and eager to win you over. 🤩🤎

Tiffany, Tucker, and newcomer Chup have all had tough starts in life, but you’d never know it.
These resilient youngsters are playful, affectionate, and full of enthusiasm, proving every day that a rough beginning doesn't define the future. 🤎🧡🖤

They're all keen to make your acquaintance and show off their fun-loving personalities! 🥰🤩

Meet TUCKER, our lovely rescue boy who has been with us since 16 April and is still searching for his forever home. Tucker is a sweet, affectionate, and playful dog who has quickly become a favourite here. He gets along wonderfully with all the other dogs, especially his best pals Tiffany and Rory, and loves spending his days playing, exploring, and enjoying plenty of cuddles.

S.P.A.R. VOLUNTEER PROFILE 🐶🐾💕

NAME: Wendy Drummond

ROLE AT S.P.A.R.:
Dog Volunteer, cleaning kennels, feeding, walking the dogs on a morning shift.

WHAT IS YOUR DAY JOB/WORK EXPERIENCE?
I am now retired, but I was a Registered Nurse/Midwife and ED Supervisor. With a Bachelor degree of Health Science/Nursing, I was also employed as a senior tutor/lecturer at Deakin University. I then established my own kinesiology business, working for 15 years as a Registered Kinesiologist.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING AT S.P.A.R.?
I’ve been volunteering for 3 years.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO JOIN THE S.P.A.R. TEAM?
I grew up with pets and have continued to own pets throughout my life, migrating to rescue dogs and cats over the past 15-20 years. Now I’m retired, I have the time to give to rescues who are in need.

WHAT DO YOU MOST LIKE ABOUT IT, AND WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
I love seeing and experiencing the changes in our rescues from when they first come into S.P.A.R. and the progress they’ve made on being adopted. I recommend our rescue animals and volunteering here regularly to friends and family.

WHO’S YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE RESCUE AND WHY?
Shelly, because she is a proud little dog, always with a happy disposition. She loves her walks, her little head held high in the air, jauntily leading the way and checking you're following along with her. She is gentle, loving and responsive to all who care for her. Love her weight loss!

WHAT PETS DO YOU HAVE?
Two rescues: Tasha, a Staffie/black lab X aged 14 and Pebbles, a calico cat aged 7.

IF YOU COULD WISH FOR ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
- All rescues throughout the world find a loving family/home.
- No euthanasia of convenience.
- Able to have more pets at home.
- Volunteer more shifts at S.P.A.R.

💗 ROSIE’S HAPPY EVER AFTER 💗
✨ From Taree Pound to treasured family girl ✨

Some stories bloom slowly… and then suddenly burst into colour.
Our beautiful Rosie is one of them 🐾💕

When Rosie first arrived from Taree Pound, she was a timid little sweetheart — unsure of the world, unsure of us, and absolutely NOT convinced that walking on lead was a thing she wanted to do. She would freeze, drop to the ground, and quietly hope the world would stop looking at her. She was also in season, overwhelmed, and trying her best to understand what was happening🥺 .

But with time, patience, and gentle encouragement, Rosie began to unfurl.
And what emerged was pure sunshine🌞.

🌼 A happy girl.
🌼 A social butterfly.
🌼 A playful sweetheart who adores humans and loves spending time with gentle K9 friends.

And then… Chris met her.
And everything changed✨.

After a couple of meet‑and‑greets, he was already referring to himself as Daddy - because that’s exactly how Rosie made him feel. Chris arrived on adoption day with a handmade bandana and a brand‑new collar, both lovingly embroidered with her name. He was ready. His heart was ready. And Rosie was ready too💞.

She trotted off with her new family, tail wagging, bandana on, looking like a princess and a whole new life waiting for her👑.

That evening, Daddy sent an update that melted us all:

💬 “Rosie is perfect.”
She was a little timid exploring the house, unsure about the stairs (which is fine, because Daddy just carries her and she “melts into my arms”).
She spent time on the balcony, taking in the view over the lake - her new favourite place to relax.

Rosie is home.
Safe. Loved. Cherished.
Exactly as she always deserved🩷.

💛 Why Adoption Matters
Every time someone opens their heart to an abandoned or forgotten pet, two lives change - the animal’s and the human’s. Rosie’s journey is a reminder that behind every timid face is a soul waiting to trust again, to love again, to belong again.

And behind every adopter is someone brave enough to say:
“I choose you. I’ll give you the life you should have always had.”

Chris didn’t just adopt a dog.
He gave Rosie her future🥹.
