District 9560 covers all of Queensland north of Maryborough and all of the Northern Territory north of the 21st parallel, as well as Timor-Leste.

Rotary District 9560 follows the Vision of Rotary International:

Enabling clubs and Rotarians to thrive, and achieve goals big and small. Our many Rotary, Rotaract, Interact and RotaKids Clubs are located throughout Central, Northern and Western Queensland, the Northern Territory in Australia, and in Timor-Leste. We are "People of Action".

Our district leaders scrubbed up pretty well for last night's Gala Dinner at the Rotary South Pacific Conference. Our camera managed to catch most of them.

The Conference has now come to an end. Thank you to all Rotarians from our District who attended and participated, with lots of ideas and inspiration returning to your clubs and the district!

Better late than never, we have tracked down a photo of the District Governor Nominee (DGN) cohort (plus some partners), which includes our nominee Rob Gibb, taken during the Governor Nominee Learning Seminar in Melbourne last week.

Pictured are Warren McPherson (partner to Maree), DGN Maree McPherson, DGN Jordan Fallon (Southern NSW/ACT area), DGN Rob Gibb (Rotary D9560), DGN Simone Wong (Northern NSW area), DGN Mike Jaggs (Rotary District 9920 - Auckland and the Pacific Islands), and PDG Leanne Jaggs (partner to Mike).

The DGNs will serve as District Governor in their respective districts in 2028-29.

This cohort is smaller than previous cohorts due to a redistricting process in Rotary South Pacific, which will result in a smaller number of districts from 1 July 2028. Some districts are yet to finalise their selections as a result of this process (and hence were not present at the seminar), and some district numbers are yet to be announced.

🌟BREAKING NEWS OUT OF MELBOURNE THIS MORNING! 🌟

At the Rotary South Pacific Conference this morning, the winners of the Rotary South Pacific (RSP) Rotary Community Group and Rotary Community Leader Awards were announced - and two of the three awards have come to our District!

A huge congratulations to Rotary Community Leader Sam Dyer who was announced as the winner of the RCL ROCKSTAR AWARD. In addition, the Rotary Tropical North Queensland Community Group has won the INNOVATION IGNITER AWARD!

The awards were presented on stage at the conference this morning by Rotary International President-Elect Larry Lunsford. After the presentation, Sam caught up with President-elect Larry, District Governor Rita Zappulla and RSP Community Group Director Stephen Lovison for some photos!

Sam we are so proud of you and all that you have and are achieving, not only with your community group, but also as our District Secretary and Webmaster. You definitely are a ROCKSTAR, and now you have the trophy to prove it!

There was exciting news from Melbourne this morning (Friday 30 October), with Judith McKay of Rotary Club of Litchfield/Palmerston Inc. being announced as the winner of ROMAC Australia & New Zealand's 2025-26 Volunteer of the Year Award.

ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) brings hope to children across Oceania by connecting them with world-class medical care when treatment isn't available in their home countries. Judith is the Northern Territory / Timor-Leste Regional ROMAC Chair, and as such, facilitates the arrangements of children coming to Australia from Timor-Leste for specialised medical treatment.

The Volunteer of the Year Award was one of ROMAC's awards announced at its Annual General Meeting held in Melbourne this morning (Friday 30 October).

On behalf of District Governor Rita Zappulla and all in Rotary District 9560, congratulations Judith, and thank you for everything you do to support these children.

Our District Governor Rita Zappulla joined the members of the current cohort of Rotary South Pacific District Governors in a forum in Melbourne yesterday, in the lead up to the Rotary South Pacific Conference which gets underway this evening. During the program for the day, the Governors had the opportunity to hear from Past Rotary International President Gordon McInally with an update on all matters Rotary Foundation. Gordon is the Chair-elect of the Rotary Foundation Trustees and is pictured in the centre of the photo below, with DG Rita next-but-one to his right.

Great to see our District Governor-Elect Larry Slattery (centre, back row) of Rotary Club of Mackay Northern Beaches with his governor-elect cohort at the Rotary South Pacific Governor-Elect Learning Seminar in Melbourne, where they had the opportunity to meet with Rotary International President-elect Larry Lunsford (centre, front row). President-elect Larry will be the Rotary International President in 2027-28, the year our governors-elect will serve as District Governor for their respective districts. Yes, for us in District 9560, it will be the year of the Larrys!

Clubs around our district have been busy as always and we almost missed this one! Rotary Club of Biloela was joined by the Biloela State High School Interact Club for its annual Lift the Lid on Mental Illness Hat Night on 22 October. It was a great evening of fun and fellowship, with a serious note - raising awareness and funds for Australian Rotary Health.
