Rotary District 9560 Northern Australia and Timor Leste District 9560 covers all of Queensland north of Maryborough and all of the Northern Territory north of the 21st parallel, as well as Timor-Leste.

Rotary District 9560 follows the Vision of Rotary International:
"Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves." Our Mission
Enabling clubs and Rotarians to thrive, and achieve goals big and small. Our many Rotary, Rotaract, Interact and RotaKids Clubs are located throughout Central, Northern and Western Queensland, the Northern Territory in Australia, and in Timor-Leste. We are "People of Action".

All eyes were on Cairns on Sunday, as the changing of our district leadership was celebrated, ahead of the start of the new Rotary year on 1 July. In a special ceremony witnessed by both online and in-person Rotarians, family and friends, the year of leadership of outgoing District Governor Greg Marlow was honoured, before Past District Governor Mike Woods inducted Rotary Club of Cairns Sunrise member Rita Zappulla into the role of District 9560 Governor for 2026-27. Before handing over the reins to Rita, DG Greg thanked Sam Dyer and Karalyn Huxhagen for their significant role in the success of the Rotary Tri-District Conference 2026 by presenting them with Paul Harris Fellow recognitions. Outgoing District Secretary Robyn Dowling was also presented with a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of her two years in the role. After being inducted, Rita thanked Greg by presenting him with a special District Service Award, and a 35-year service award. All in all, it was a great event, held in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Cairns Sunrise changeover and celebration of its 35th anniversary.

🌟 Celebrating Sophie Walsh – A Remarkable Achievement! 🌟

Recently, the Rotary Club of Gladstone Port Curtis was delighted to welcome Sophie Walsh back to share her inspiring journey through the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) — and some very exciting news about what comes next!
Sophie spoke about her time at NYSF, where she attended a program at the University of Queensland, explored cutting-edge science, visited leading research institutions, and connected with like-minded students from across Australia. 🔬
Thanks to this experience, Sophie discovered and applied for a scholarship to attend the International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) — and the Club is absolutely thrilled to share that she has been awarded a fully funded scholarship! ✈️🇬🇧

This July, she will travel to London to join students from more than 90 countries in this prestigious global program.

Sophie also expressed her sincere gratitude to the Gladstone Port Curtis Rotary Club and the The Rotary Club Of South Gladstone, acknowledging that without Rotary’s support, she would not have attended NYSF or discovered this opportunity.

🔴 34 clubs have not contributed to the Annual Fund

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s number one community service project — it’s how we create lasting change both locally and globally.

👏 A huge thank you to the clubs who have already stepped up and supported PolioPlus and the Annual Fund. Your generosity is making a real impact.

But for those clubs yet to give — now is the time.

🚀 Rotary Community Leaders Ready to Lead!

Yesterday our Rotary Community Leaders (RCLs) came together in Cairns for a vital training day as part of the Rotary South Pacific program.

It was fantastic to see such strong commitment, with participants travelling from across the two states that make up our district (Queensland and Northern Territory) as well as from Timor-Leste, to be part of the day. The energy, collaboration, and willingness to engage set the tone for what’s ahead.

The session supported our RCLs as they prepare to embark from 1 July, on an important journey, alongside their Rotary Community Groups — working together to strengthen clubs, grow membership, and build a vibrant future for Rotary across our district.

A big thank you to everyone who stepped up, contributed, and leaned into the process. Thank you also to the Rotary leaders from our District who contributed to making this a successful day - Rotary Tropical North Queensland Community Leader, Sam Dyer, Incoming District Membership Chair, PDG Michael Buckeridge, and District Trainer Paul Asprey.

The work starts now, and we’re excited to see the impact that will come from this dedicated group of leaders.
