On Sunday we held our annual event ‘The Social Knitwork’. We welcomed familiar faces, regular attendees and many who travelled from afar. The speakers were inspiring and the lived experiences shared were a timely reminder as we head into winter of the impact KOGO donations make. Stay tuned for a recording of the event. We were also delighted to welcome a number of school-age knitters who shared their love and passion for creativity. Chelsea pictured in today’s post had the opportunity to meet our CEO Vicki and donate a crochet octopus. This week the octopus was included in a baby gift bag to be given to a mum and bub experiencing hardship. If you are a school looking to hear about all things KOGO please reach out to our community liaison Officer Andrea via our website: https://www.kogo.org.au/contact

This week in celebration of National Volunteer Week 2026 we came together, shared a cuppa and celebrated the invaluable contribution of our volunteers. Held at KOGO Hub Vicki acknowledged our ever growing KOGO community who give their time and talents Australia-wide whilst creating connection, purpose, and stronger communities. We also took the opportunity to celebrate a special birthday - Shirley’s 90th! Shirley (photographed alongside Vicki) reflected on her time at KOGO sharing it’s been a privilege to be involved from when Ros was CEO and now with Vicki at the helm.

This year’s Volunteer Week theme is “Your Year to Volunteer.” If you know someone looking to make a meaningful contribution to community, maybe they don’t knit or crochet and have been wondering how they can get involved at KOGO, we have a variety of roles we need help with. Please encourage them reach out here or email [email protected]

We are excited to share that we’ve received an People of Post Grant for our Baby Welcome Packs. Our Packs are distributed to vulnerable parents through maternal health centres, hospitals, women’s refuges, homeless shelters and refugee centres. Each Baby Welcome Pack comprises a new matching hand knitted or crocheted blanket, cardigan, beanie and a soft toy. For many parents, this might be the only new items they receive for their newborn babies. The funding will help us continue to distribute our Packs Australia wide. We’re proud to be one of many community-led organisations creating positive impact across Australia.

In need of wool? This year alongside the usual yarn, we are selling an incredible wool stash donated by Margaret, a keen knitter and generous member of our KOGO  community. All monies raised will go towards our main running costs rent and transport.

Been crafting donations for KOGO? Bring them along to The Social Knitwork. There will be volunteers waiting to collect them and transport them back to KOGO Hub.
