WIZO Victoria Israel Mission 🇮🇱 A sweet visit to WIZO’s Ahuzat Yeladim

Aprons on, sleeves rolled up and a few biscuits that didn’t quite make it to the oven 🤣🍪

Our delegates joined a baking session at WIZO Ahuzat Yeladim, getting hands-on with a social enterprise that gives students experience in baking, packaging and selling their own biscuits.

Through each stage, students develop practical business, communication and life skills, building independence, confidence and pride in what they can achieve.

The group also shared lunch with Director Idan and bought biscuits to support the students’ work, leaving with a deeper appreciation of the opportunities this initiative creates and a few sweet treats to take with them 🍪🍪🍪

Day 3 | WIZO Victoria Israel Mission 🇮🇱

On this day our delegates witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact of WIZO’s work and the generosity of our Australian supporters.

Visiting the WIZO Community Centre in Modi’in, established 14 years ago through the generosity of the late Rae and Tom Mandel z”l. Today, it is a thriving hub for families and the wider community, led by dedicated volunteer Orit and her team. We were also joined by Ilan Skolnik, Director of External Relations at World WIZO, and Ora Korazim from WIZO Israel, who shared their insights with our delegates.

We then travelled to the Rebecca Sieff Centre in Beit Hakerem, Jerusalem, where we met Sarita, Director of the Gina Fromer Women’s Shelter, and saw the newly renovated apartments made possible through WIZO Victoria’s 2025 Matched Giving Day 🫶👏

These apartments allow mothers and their teenage children to remain together in a safe, supportive environment as they rebuild their lives. One particularly moving moment was hearing from a mother who had been able to celebrate her son’s Bar Mitzvah at the shelter shortly after arriving.

Our final visit was to WIZO’s alternative school, where young people gain practical skills in hairdressing, makeup, sound engineering and baking. A highlight was visiting the bakery, where students welcomed the group with freshly baked pastries.

A day that brought home the tangible difference our community makes, from Melbourne to Israel.

A highlight from our WIZO Victoria 2026 Solidarity Mission: attending the Jerusalem Post Diplomatic Conference in Jerusalem as special guests.

World WIZO President Anat Vidor spoke about WIZO’s long history of women-led diplomacy and the power of our international networks to strengthen Israeli society and ensure Israel’s voice is heard around the world.

Our delegates also had the pleasure of meeting WIZO Germany President Nicole Faktor Nicole Faktor, connecting with Australian journalist Erin Molan and British barrister Natasha Hausdorff Official and reconnecting with Zach Sage Fox

These meaningful encounters brought together members of our international WIZO family and voices advocating for Israel across the globe.

Shabbat Shalom from the Holy Land, with these special moments from Jerusalem’s Old City 💙

Our boutique WIZO Victoria Solidarity Mission has had an incredibly moving start. Arriving in Israel in the days surrounding the third anniversary of October 7, our group has shared moments of sorrow, reflection, joy and connection.

A guided walk began at the Mount of Olives lookout with a spectacular view of the Old City, continuing to the City of David and the tunnels underneath which lead to the back of the Kotel and an intimate moment of private tefillah and placing notes, a moving and meaningful day.

Alongside these Jerusalem experiences, the group has attended the October 7 commemorations in Tel Aviv and the Jerusalem Post Diplomatic Conference and visited WIZO projects. We can’t wait to share those incredible moments and so much more in the coming week.

Today WIZO Victoria stands with Israel and our Jewish community here in Melbourne, across Australia and around the world. We hold our friends and family in Israel close, sharing in our collective grief, remembrance, resilience and strength.

Three years ago, Hamas terrorists invaded Israel, murdering approximately 1,200 people, wounding thousands and abducting 251 men, women and children to Gaza.

Behind every number was an entire life. A family. A future that should never have been taken.

Three years have passed. Some days, it feels like a lifetime. On others, it feels as though we are still inside that morning, waiting for the nightmare to end.

Today, we remember every life stolen, every family torn apart, every survivor carrying the weight of what happened and every community still rebuilding.

We remember not only how those murdered died, but how they lived. We honour those who ran towards danger to save others. And we continue to tell their stories because remembrance is not only something we carry. It is a responsibility.

May the memories of all those murdered on October 7 be a blessing.
