Bengali Association of Western Australia

Bengali Association of Western Australia A community that embraces the Australian way of life and is well-connected to its ethnic roots in Bengal.

We are based in Perth, arguably the remotest capital city on the planet. A city blessed with pleasant hills, overlooking a magical river flowing into the mighty Indian Ocean; a city of beautiful landscapes, overwhelming greenery and easygoing people. Here, in the South-Western corner of Australia, we have created our home away from home; a community of Bengali-Australians.

Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti 2026

The Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) successfully hosted its first cultural event of 2026 on 29 May, celebrating the birth anniversaries of Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The vibrant “gharowa” evening brought our community together through songs, dance, and recitations, paying heartfelt homage to the timeless legacy of these two literary luminaries.

We were delighted that the Hon’ble India in Australia (Consulate General of India, Perth), Ms. Kajari Biswas, Mr. Said Padshah from the Office of Multicultural Interests, ISWA President Dr. Divya Sharma, President of the Bangladesh Australian Association of WA Mr. Anis Zaman, and other distinguished guests were able to attend the program.

The event was marked by enthusiastic participation, memorable performances, and a warm sense of togetherness, making it a heartfelt tribute to the enduring influence of Tagore and Nazrul.

BAWA extends its sincere gratitude to all performers, guests, volunteers, and attendees who made the celebration a wonderful success.
Special Thanks to Siddhartha Bhattacharya for capturing the memorable moments from the event.

Together, we continue to cherish Bengal’s rich cultural heritage within Western Australia’s vibrant multicultural community.
