Perinatal Wellbeing Centre

Perinatal Wellbeing Centre Supporting families experiencing antenatal and postnatal (perinatal) depression and anxiety. We believe your family deserves the best start in life.

Our vision is to improve the perinatal mental health of women, men and their families. If you or your partner are suffering from Perinatal (Post or Antenatal) Depression or Anxiety we are here to help you through this difficult time. Postnatal Depression (PND) can affect up to 16% of women (and 10% of men) with the onset usually occurring during the first year after birth. Antenatal Depression (AN

D) affects as many as 10% of women with onset at any time during pregnancy. Remember you are not alone in this; adjustment to parenting can be challenging for many parents. If you are experiencing overwhelming worry and/or low mood which is negatively affecting your life every day it could be postnatal depression. That's why we encourage you to speak to your GP and to read more about the services Perinatal Wellbeing Centre can offer. Give us a call - in confidence - to discuss your needs. Click on the links above to find out more. And don't forget, Perinatal Wellbeing Centre also helps dads as well as mums!

Thank you to our wonderful volunteer Karen for everything you've done over the last decade! Your dedication has made a meaningful difference, and we are incredibly grateful.

Today marks the end of Karen's work volunteering with us, and we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate her 10+ years of service with our organisation.

We've been incredibly grateful to have Karen on our team, working hard each and every week as part of our adjunct childcare program. In 2021, she won the "Senior Volunteer of the Year Award - Highly Commended" at that year's ACT Volunteering Awards - a very well-deserved celebration of her dedication and hard work.

Please join us in celebrating Karen’s work by sharing a message of thanks for her in the comments. Let's all wish her the best as she enters her next chapter!

Interested in volunteering with the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre? We're always welcoming new volunteers to our team. If you have a WWVP card, you can apply right now - just follow the link in our bio or visit: https://www.perinatalwellbeingcentre.org.au/forms/ask-about-volunteering

Today is the start of this year’s Liptember campaign, an annual effort to raise awareness and vital funds for women's mental health.

Mental health is at the core of everything we do, and Liptember is a powerful reminder that meaningful change starts with open conversations, targeted support, and a commitment to breaking down stigma.

Since 2010, Liptember has been a national movement supporting women's mental health research, advocacy, education, and programs.

Join us in celebrating Liptember and everyone working to improve mental health outcomes for women and girls across Australia.

Over this past weekend we hosted our very first Dad’s Brekkie BBQ! It was a fabulous morning out with plenty of sunshine and blue skies to make the day extra special. We were so happy to be able to put on such a successful event in support of dad’s wellbeing and provide a welcoming space to make new connections and learn new things.

It was so lovely to see so many dads and families stop by, grab a free brekkie burger and cuppa, and connect with one another in this welcoming space. We were welcomed to country by the wonderful Richie Allan, and Stephen Larkham of the ACT Brumbies discussed his own experiences as a father amidst his rugby career. And between the various activities and local services available for attendees to interact with, and a huge raffle to participate in, there was no shortage of entertainment and interest throughout the morning.

Massive thanks to our sponsors for their contributions to our raffle:

Anaconda Stores
ACT Brumbies
Bunnings Warehouse Australia
Canberra Brave
Canberra Reptile Zoo
Dendy Cinemas Australia
HOYTS Australia
National Dinosaur Museum
NFSA - National Film and Sound Archive of Australia
Questacon
Weston Bull

Your support was incredible and helped make this event so special. And congratulations to all our raffle winners!

Thanks once again to everyone who attended the Dad’s Brekkie BBQ! We were thrilled to have you all 🩵 And of course a massive THANK YOU to Mental Health Community Coalition ACT and Capital Health Network for making this event possible!

Today is Wear It Purple Day, and we all got dressed up in lovely purple tones to celebrate the occasion!

This year's theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the many different forms of courage shown by young people in the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies - speaking up, standing out, and creating change. It's an opportunity to honour both generations past and the strength of young people today.

At the Perinatal Wellbeing Centre, we stand with our LGBTQIA+ friends, colleagues, and clients.

**TRIGGER WARNING: Discussion of SIDS, infant loss and stillbirth, miscarriages**

Today we commemorate Red Nose Day, an incredibly important occasion and opportunity to highlight the vital work being done to help save little lives and support families.

Red Nose Day is an annual fundraising day focusing on research for stillbirths and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), campaigning each and every year to bring communities together and make a difference for families in need.

This work is of course incredibly close to our own hearts as mental health professionals, also the research funded by this special day also contributes to supporting parental mental health.

If you’d like to learn more about Red Nose Day or make a donation, visit: https://www.rednoseday.org.au/
