Weston Creek Community Centre, adjacent to Cooleman Court Shopping Centre, is a unique community facility, having provided its varied services to the local community since 1978. The Centre comprises 4 squash courts, a large function hall and kitchen, 2 meeting rooms and various offices. The Centre houses:
• Centre4Seniors run by Communities@Work,
• Stromlo Christian Church,
• ACT War Widows Guild
, and
• Valley Baptist Church. It also manages the Weston Neighbourhood Hall on the site of the old Weston Primary School on Gritten Street (The Community Hub). The Function Hall at the Centre comfortably accommodates 180 people, and the Neighbourhood Hall 250 people. They are very popular venues for celebrations, including 21st birthdays, engagements, weddings etc. Both locations offer facilities such as tables, chairs, PA system (Community Centre only), projector, etc., and both kitchens are well equipped, and include fridges, dishwasher, crockery, cutlery etc. They can be hired for other activities including martial arts classes, exercise and dance classes, exhibitions, market days, and playgroups etc. The Meeting Rooms are air-conditioned, and include tables, chairs, projector and tea/coffee making facilities, and are used for meetings, seminars, courses etc. The 4 Squash Courts are open 7 days a week for both competition and social squash use. There is a small kiosk with racquets for sale and hire, and re-stringing service. The Centre runs a number of exercise and recreation classes throughout the year, including Mature Fitness classes, Belly Dance, Zumba Gold, and Yoga for Beginners. The Centre offers comprehensive secretarial services including typing & photocopying. The Centre also helps out with bookkeeping and payrolls for non profit organisations.
