Weston Creek Community Council

Weston Creek Community Council The Weston Creek Community Council (WCCC) page provides updates on local issues and is a presence for residents to stay connected.

The Weston Creek Community Council (WCCC) is a forum for residents to convey concerns to government. It is non-party political and lobbies government and bureaucrats for services and facilities for the residents of Weston Creek. It does not provide support services as it was established as a political lobby group and continues that function irrespective of the government of the day. In fulfilling

this role the WCCC acts on behalf of residents (or groups of residents) to take issue with the government. In many cases particular residents or groups wish to remain anonymous and the WCCC lobbies on their behalf.

We have a very simple vision for Cooleman Court Shopping Centre and surrounds that supports improved access to the centre for aging residents, cyclists and families and that will boost and support small business. Cooleman Court Shopping Centre is a great little shopping centre already, thanks to the excellent stewardship of local management. We need changes to the parking time limits to better support users (longer time limits), some apartments for locals to downsize into and employment that might support bringing back some smaller boutique retailers, similar to Manuka and Kingston, but we also have our own unique village vibe. We're also ready to support the ACT Government and engage in further consultancy prior to any works being ordered, to get the most out of any money that is spent here.

At least today, it's cold. There's little sun. What wind makes it through forms little flurries with the fallen leaves.…

The old tourist drive number 5 is a beautiful stretch of road, seemingly abandoned by the ACT government.
Situated on Canberra’s precious Western Edge, it needs investment to return it to former glory and reduce the risk of vandalism and unwanted activity. We also need to avoid the risk of rubber run off into our rivers out here.
Before we all continue to put the boot into motor enthusiasts, an alternative perspective is that it’s time to build a facility for Motorsport in Canberra?
Getting this type of activity off our roads is important for safety and for containing environmental effects , but it needs a home. It’s Motor sport.
You don’t need to understand it if you’re not participating but perhaps we can respect that some people will spend thousands of dollars on tyres, paint and horsepower because they love cars and driving.
Some of Canberra’s biggest major events pull participants and spectators from all over Australia and contribute to the economy. Not to mention touring car rally’s.
We can complain all we like but we need a real alternative, solutions and leadership in this space.

Attended this event last night and the complaints are not surprising.
We are lucky to have plenty of fields in Weston Creek but they could certainly do with upgrades like storage, toilets and canteens.
Thank you to Mark Parton MLA and Ed C***s MLA for organising this important roundtable and to Yvette Berry and Fiona Carrick MLA for attending. It's clear that a 5- and 20-year strategic plan is required with co-design and consultation from sporting stakeholder groups to get a roadmap for future investment and maintenance that supports the work done by the ACT Government Sportsgrounds team.

More than 70 fed-up Canberrans shared their shocking stories at a meeting on Thursday night.
