Waterways shape landscapes, sustain biodiversity and communities, and hold deep cultural and historical significance. Yet their ecological and social values are often difficult to convey visually.

This workshop explores photography as a tool for revealing the character and complexity of waterways, documenting environmental change, supporting science and management, and communicating landscape values.

Participants will learn how to capture the forms, dynamic processes and habitats of waterways along with their connections to people, place, and the wider landscape.

This highly interactive workshop combines theory, critique, practical sessions and fieldwork to assist participants to improve both their technical and creative skills.

It is designed for Landcarers, scientists, environmental professionals, educators, artists, conservation practitioners, and the wider general public – anyone interested in waterways and landscapes. People with all levels of knowledge and skill are welcome.

The workshop is presented by professional environmental photographer and ecologist, Dr Alison Pouliot.

Mt Rothwell Night Tour- Celebrating 40 years of Landcare

In celebration of 40 years of Landcare, we invite you to join us for a special night-time wildlife experience at Mt Rothwell. Travel by bus from Bunanyong Community House and, after a BBQ dinner, explore the sanctuary on a guided spotlight tour as the landscape comes alive after dark. Mt Rothwell offers a glimpse of what our landscapes once supported and demonstrates what can be achieved through decades of dedication to conservation. Keep your eyes peeled for Eastern Barred Bandicoots, Rufous Bettongs, Eastern Bettongs, Southern Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies and perhaps even an Eastern Quoll!
Sunday 11 October | Bus departs Buninyong Community House at 5pm| Tour at 8pm
BBQ dinner provided on arrival at Mt Rothwell | Family welcome| Limited places
Tour duration: approximately 1.5–2 hours. Be prepared for a late night.
Please dress for the weather and wear long pants and closed shoes suitable for walking outdoors at night.

A brilliant morning was had this morning with Friends of Specimen Vale subgroup, local Geocachers and Mt Clear Secondary College planting another 250 trees following on from previous plantings. The area is looking so good.

Snake Alert- Be aware of our scaled friends 🐍

Spring has arrived, and snake activity is starting across the region.

Our project officer Chrissy just spotted this beautiful specimen near one of our planting sites at Redan Marshes.

Snakes are an important part of our local environment and generally only bite if they feel cornered or threatened.

Let's share the space safely by following a few simple steps:

🐍Watch your step – Stay on clear paths and wear sturdy, closed shoes outdoors.

🐍Clear the clutter – Keep backyard lawns short and remove woodpiles or rubbish where they might seek shelter.

🐍Give them space – If you spot a snake, back away slowly and let it pass. Do not try to harm or move it.

If a snake is in ahigh traffic area or inside your home please keep children and pets away and call a professional snake catcher.
